Plex Server MAC Randomly Crashing

DiagnosticReports.zip (19.4 KB)

Last crash date was 6th august

Thanks - these diagnostic reports show transcoder crashes with the last one on 6th August at 18:40

We have an issue on MacOS where the P;ex Media Server child process crashes (in this case the Plex Transcoder) result in the Plex Media Server exiting.

I have added you to the Private Message thread that gives you access to PMS Development build 1.32.7.7361 which is expected to resolve the Plex Media Server exiting issue.

In future please make sure you also include Plex Media Server logs when reporting issues

Ok tanks for your feedback

Having the same issue. Found using Version 1.32.0.6973 works fine. Anything newer and it crashes every few mins.

Can you add myself to it as well please? Happy to try this out for you, and report back.

The crashes for which this development build relate to are ones occurring when the transcoder crashes on Mac OS. There is a transcoder issue at the moment where it crashes when subtitles are used - but that happens at the end / near the end of the movie / episode - so I would not be expecting this to happen every few minutes

I have added you - but you need to establish if this is the same issue or some other issue - eg database corruption

I would like to try this solution, I’m running Plex on a M2 Mac mini and every couple days my server is no longer connected. I can go into applications and start the server again, and it will come up like normal.
Plex Crash Uploader.log (590 Bytes)
Plex Media Server.log (700 Bytes)

same for me goes down 2-3 times a day I’m using the Beta of new Mac OS Sonoma 14.0

The logs do not show anything useful. I suspect you have Debug Logging disabled. Please enable it and restart the server to get fresh logs created, On next crash, restart and get the server logs.

Please do not be selective in which log files to attach and just attach the full server logs zip file downloaded on restart after a crash - using the Plex Web settings / Troubleshooting interface

and also please zip the contents of
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

Looks similar - server exited at 21:05 on 12 August whilst a transcode was in progress. I will add you to the PM with access to the development build that should avoid the server crash (when transcoder crashes)

I’m assuming I can’t get a copy of the build without providing logs? Any build from the last couple months have crashed for me (using 6810 now, M2 Max), but yea, just curious if I need to provide logs to get the build is all.

No worries if so, wanted to ask!

I report this issue further up, just wondering if I can get access to the Dev build please?

I use subtitles a lot and have revert back to older version to solve my issue. with the transcoder exiting at the end or near the end of episodes.

Asking for a friend. What is the known good/safe build?

Running version 1.32.5.7349 on a M1 Mac and having the same problem. seems to only be happening while trying to download to mobile apps. it is transcoding the files for download but does not seem to be straining any computer resources that I can see. it seems to be getting worse as the problem persists though, crashing more often.

We have an issue where the server crashes when the transcoder crashes on Mac OS. I need to establish if this is what is happening

Could you get me a zip of this folder
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

Yes I do want to understand and see what crash it is before providing the build

So - debug server logs captured after a crash and relaunching the server together with zip of ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

Dev build seems to be perfect. Working solid for over two weeks, not one crash.

Could I get on the Dev build train?

That should be what you were asking for

I’d love to try this dev build as well as I can not find a download for version 1.31.1.6733 anywhere to downgrade to.
