Plex Server MAC Randomly Crashing

Thanks for the diag reports from MacOS

It does not look like the same issue. There was no transcoder crash diag report. Only diag reports in the folder are informative generated for high rates of cpu usage or disk writes.

Whilst the build that I have resolves the crashes of Plex Media Server when the transcoder crashes on MacOS, it also corrects handling of Plex Media Server crash detection and handling - so it may help in this way and we may see a crash report generated. I will give you access to 1.32.7.7407 and if the server crashes, let me have the debug server logs after restart following the crash and also zip of the DiagnosticReports folder. The 1.32.7.7407 fixes server crashing when transcoder crashes and also fixes a specific transcoder crash

For the server crashes, I would like to have a look at the debug server logs and files within the ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports folder before making the build available

Sounds good sa2000. I will start up my own thread as my issues may be slightly (or very, don’t know) different, and I don’t want to hijack this thread.

If I upload my Server Logs, won’t that show IP’s, my port numbers, etc? Is that safe to do for everyone here to see?

A security token is needed to get access to a server through the Public IP address and port

Has this dev build been pushed to main yet?

Daily crashes also on MacOS. Possible to test the Dev build or provide credible link to the 1.32.0.6973 build? Thanks!

From what I can tell, not yet.

My Plex on Mac M2 (1.32.6.7371 Beta Channel) crashed today and simply wouldn’t keep running. I’d start it and it’d crash within seconds. I used my time capsule to find PMS Version 1.32.0.6918 and that’s running now.

Debug enabled on version 1.32.6.7371 after crash end of PMS.log is:

Aug 26, 2023 21:28:54.400 [0x16cdef000] DEBUG - [Req#16/Transcode/q2jzouwtag2wyhqxy5sv8ia4/e2bade24-55ea-48f2-8eb4-46becfefc203] Transcoder segment range: 763 - 763 (763)

Happy to send you full logs via DM if you’d permit and willing to test latest Dev build. Thanks in advance.

if you look in this folder
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports
Is there a Plex Transcoder diagnostic file created at about this time: Aug 26, 2023 21:28:54.

I expect the fix to be coming out in the next beta update to the 1.32.6 beta

In the meantime, I am making the development build available to users providing debug server logs captured after a crash plus a zip of the files in folder
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports and there is evidence of the specific type of crash that the fix is addressing

Attached. Thank you!

Thank you

That is a transcoder crash at 2023-08-26 21:28:54.4039 which coincides with the time the Plex Media Server exiting - with last server log time at

Aug 26, 2023 21:28:54.400 [0x16cd63000] DEBUG - [Req#4e/Transcode/q2jzouwtag2wyhqxy5sv8ia4/e2bade24-55ea-48f2-8eb4-46becfefc203] Transcoder segment range: 763 - 764 (764)

I have given you access to the 1.32.7.7407 development build which has a fix for the transcoder crashing when handling subtitles and also the server crashing when the transcoder crashes

I expect the fix to be included in the next update to the current beta 1.32.6

Thank you quick reply! 1.32.7.7407 is running on my server now. Let me know how I can help further.

@sa2000, I’ve been following your posts in several of the threads hoping a new release would be announced soon, as I have also been experiencing the transcode crashes, although not so much the server crashes. I have set Plex as a service and so as soon as the server crashes it is relaunched immediately. Attached are the server logs and diagnostic reports after one of the server crashes a few days ago. Since the server is relaunched I had to stop the service in order to get the logs. Hope you can give me to the development build that fixes these issues. Thanks.

Does not appear to be a transcoder crash leading to the server crashing. after Aug 26, 2023 00:43:55… No Diagnostic Reports for the 26th August.

I will make the development build available - please replace with the beta once gets updated with these fixes

I am having the same issue and am looking for access to the dev build. Thanks!

@sa2000, curious does the beta released today (1.32.6.7468) come with your fix (the one you’ve been sharing with others here)?

Edit: I’m assuming so, as I see a note that states “Transcoder crashes would cause PMS to exit #14414”, just wanted to make sure  Been dying for this update, in the years I’ve been using Plex, this is the 1st big issue I’ve ever had, love Plex, thanks for all you do sa2000

I’ve been having the same issue and am testing the beta now! Last good version for me was 1.32.0.6973 with this subtitle transcoding crashing issue

Yeah., I installed the beta this morning and it crashed/shutdown within a couple of hours.
