Plex Server MAC Randomly Crashing

I just installed the beta (was on 1.31.2.6810 before and also had no issues), fingers crossed everything works. I’l l let you know!

oh dang, was your crash due to the issues in this topic (transcoder), or something else??

Something around beginning of June made my Plex crash all the time, all day, over and over every 5 minutes… then be good for a few hours, then back to issues. I ended up going back to 6810 and no issues. So hopefully this new beta fixes the problems I had back in June/July

I’m not entirely sure. I haven’t looked at the logs yet, though honestly I have a hard time understanding them. Interestingly, I only reloaded PMS and had it on with nobody streaming anything and it did the random crash/shutdown. I have decided I am going to roll it back to version 1.31.1.6733 until this is fixed.

The latest beta 1.32.6.7468 has the fixes for the transcoder crashes leading to Plex Media Server crashes as well as a fix for the transcoder crash when handling subtitles that end before the movie finishes

see

  • (Mac) Transcoder crashes would cause PMS to exit (#14414)
  • (Transcoder) Unexpected behavior when subtitles ended before the end of video (#14426)

I’ve swapped back to Version 1.31.1.6733 on my Mac Mini. After testing v1.32.6.7468, i’ve had a few crashes.

It goes one step further that the current stable version, plex crashes and you open it again.
My SMB share disconnects for some strange reason when running v1.32.6.7468. At the end of a show where plex would normal crash. Technically plex stops playing, but the server is still running and then my SMB share disconnects.

Has happened twice so today since upgrading to v1.32.6.7468

Please could you raise a new forum topic for this and provide server logs so I can start a fresh investigation to see what these crashes are.

When this happens - does the server respond to this request in a browser on the server itself ?

I have looked at your recent posts - i could not find any logs for any of your previous crashes - you did provide a diagnostic report for a transcoder crash and that should now be resolved. So there may be a different issue giving rise to continued crashes

Please ping me in a any new forum topic you raise and please ensure you do not disable debug logging in server advanced general settings - capture the logs zip through Plex Web after restarting following a crash

Thanks

I’ll test again shortly, no crashes with the old version since I revert backed.
But now have a critical drive in my synology.

So going to swap that out first, before upgrading to the latest version again.
I suspect it will be the critical drive thats the issue and not the update. just a nice coincidence
