I just tried to use my plexamp to listen to my Plex server and it’s gone. I have Plex running on an Nvidia shield and everything worked as of last week. I try to listen to my home server and now the Plex media server on the shield has disappeared. This happened before and I had to delete everything and reinstall Plex. This is completely unacceptable for a technology company.
Your updates are completely buggy an make the experience terrible.
I bought a lifetime plexpass because I thought I was buying stability for a product. This is completely unacceptable.
I’ve moved this post into its own thread as it’s not related to the thread you in which you originally posted it.
Would you mind elaborating a bit further what’s going on in your setup?
e.g.
what version of PMS do you have installed on the Shield?
can you access the server from any other Plex apps (e.g. the Shield itself or the web app)?
any details on how the server is missing within Plexamp (and/or the other apps) e.g., do you get an error message, are the libraries showing but listed as offline/unavailable, do you get an error that you’re not authorized to access the server…?
I’ve had this problem a few times. There is an update for Plex Server (Beta) that doesn’t automatically update.
How to fix:
Go into System on the Shield, and go to Apps. If Plex Server is listed, click “Uninstall”, it should then say there is an update for it, and would you like to install it. Install it, reboot.
If Plex Server isn’t listed in the Apps, you’ll have to install it from the Play Store, reboot. Then follow Step 1.
I have had the exact same problem with same set-up. Plex media server on shield. Seems to me there was an update to the app on Shield and it appears to have broken something. I have yet to figure out how to reconnect.
Plex was unavailable to anything. I noticed it was gone when I started up plexamp on my phone and it couldn’t find any information from the server.
So I went directly on the shield and noticed there was no longer any information on the server section. Of the settings screen. I thought I took a pic of it, but can’t find it. I tried clearing all the data from app cache and app data. Didn’t help.
Per the recommendations, I uninstalled PMS and then reinstalled. I was hoping to avoid that because I didn’t want to have to clean up match errors/misses that I already cleaned up. But it had to rescan my libraries and I had to clean up the metadata again. This is the second time in a year where I had to do this.
It would be great if you could export out the preferences.xml file instead of having to into the shield disk structure to pull it out to back it up. I’m guessing it holds all the library information since there are some articles on how to back up all your Plex metadata.
