Plex Media Server is disfunctioning and stops running by itself, even on a virgin install.
Here is the problem I found that leads to the impossibility to have the server running:
I uninstall both Plex Mediz Server (PMS) and Plex app from Nvidia shield pro (NSP).
I reboot NSP
I install PMS and Plex app.
I launch Plex app to set up PMS, install PMS on external drive (where it was working fine for the last years). Virgin install, no libraries, no files added. PMS is running.
I reboot NSP.
I launch Plex app, go in settings, go in the Plex Media Server category and switch off server (to mimic what I would do to remove my external drive to back up or restore PMS). PMS is switch off.
I reboot NSP.
I open Plex app, go in settings to switch it back on and under the Plex Media Server category, there is now nothing. I cannot switch it back on. PMS is not running.
Please, how to get back PMS running? This is an urgent matter (kids at home for the holidays!).
For maybe just the 2 other folks this was an issue for, I figured out the solution.
On your NSP, go to google play store and then to your app drawer. From there, find the plex server app and uninstall and re install that app.
If it’s not there, go to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb
And then push install that to your shield. Then it should be there and you can uninstall and reinstall.
Once all that’s done, close out plex and relaunch plex. Voila, should re start the server setup!
Hope that helps!
I don’t know if it’s related or not, but I’m having the same issue with the Plex Media Server on a windows 10 system. Keep saying the database is corrupt, even on a fresh install with a brand new virgin database that it just created itself.
I found success in the windows version by only removing all registry entries and all hidden data directories. Not sure if that is the same for you, but at least this has allowed a fresh install to actually work. Now it’s just the time it takes to rebuild over 200,000 video files that I have in my library.
Received an update of Plex today (not PMS) on the shield. Uninstalled everything, fresh new install. Still the issue. PMS unaccessible. That is really becoming an issue for a paid service. Could not access Plex during Christmas holidays and still cannot.
