PLEX server not adding MPEG2 format Bluray movies

Running latest PLEX server on clean install of Windows 10 on new rack server from yesterday.

Version 20H2
Installed on 05/‎04/‎2021

No other software installed on server.

I have Bluray boxset of Robocop Trilogy

RoboCop Trilogy Blu-ray Release Date October 5, 2010 (RoboCop / RoboCop 2 / RoboCop 3)

and noticed that only Robocop 2 and 3 were in library but Robocop 1 was missing.

No matter what I do, I can’t get it to add, and noticed that it is in an unusual format with MPEG2 video being used as format for movie on disc.

I noticed this when I tried test playing it and Windows 10 informed me that it needed to download the MPEG codec in order to play the file.

Anyway it still does not add to PLEX after doing a rescan after Windows added the codec.

So is this a bug? Is there some way that PLEX could give us a list of files it tries to add but fails because of codec missing reasons? It’s a bit annoying that it just silently fails without informing somewhere of any failed attempts (that is easy for user to see - logs are impossible to find even when you know what you are looking for I found).

At first I thought a Blu Ray containing a 1080p MPEG-2 video stream was a bootleg (or something), but to my surprise - it’s official.

An official PITA as well. <—MPEG-2 Video will NOT Direct Play on HALF of the available Devices in my Home - and NONE of them are Shields.

Now that you paid for a version that doesn’t half work - go download a version that works.

Also you might try naming it correctly 'cause:
Robocop_t00.mkv
is now probably Mismatched and Merged with another poorly named file.

At my house FileBot names 'em like this:

There is nothing wrong with Blurays and MPEG2 video on them. Apart from their file size.

I’d first check if Plex hasn’t added the file of Robocop 1 to one of the other Robocop posters. Plex media info

check for duplicates

Never saw that functionality to see Unmatched or Duplicates! That’s what I was looking for!

There was one movie in list called “titler” which was 39 duplicates which were all individual movies with same filename “title00.mkv”

I have renamed the duplicates now, but I can’t get PLEX to add them and update itself. Tried “Scan Library Files” and “Refresh All Metadata”.

Is there some way to clean it up after renaming files?

Also in the Unmatched filter there are still 200 unmatched - even though they have obvious clear names such as “Frozen” or “Ex_Machina” - some of them have extension “_t01” etc… seems like an obvious thing that the scanner could strip off while searching…
