I cannot launch Plex server(1st time using it,so glad I did not buy it 1st as I was planning)
I installed both server and plexamp on my win 10 pc

But server will not launch so

On my router I

Port forward for plex to PC IP address

TCP port forward 32400

Turned off advanced security on the router

Turned off the anti-virus & checked the firewall(Firewall is not blocking it)

Navigate go to c:\users%your user name%\appdata\local
Delete the Plex folder
Start Plex

None of that worked

Nor did un and reinstalling, renaming paths etc

Any help is appreciated

Do you see the Plex icon in the system tray?

Yes I do

It took what feels like forever, but I am now embarrassed

It needs to run in my browser. And what a sweet program

1 issue tho. Can I ask here?

Every time I add another HDD/folder of music i get another desk/folder(of the same name)

So now I have 8 desks/folders(Music)

The issue is to view or search all my music i need to do one “Music”/desk at a time

  1. Is there a way to have one united view of everything across all the desks/folders?
I tried to create a new desk/folder named exactly the same as another desk/folder thinking that would unite them, but it did not. It just created another folder of the exact same name

Just these few issues are keeping me from buying the subscription, and I have a feeling there is a satisfying answer to them because it is a lauded program

Thank you for your time

So what you did was created 8 libraries.

Instead, you can use the 3 dots next to it and edit library and just add folders to your library.

Dang i wish i knew that ahead of time mate lol

Is it too late now to somehow unite those 8?

Also, are you telling me that there is no way to view and search across all desks/folders as one?
Thank you

Can Plex show me all my libraries in one window, and can I search in one search across all libraries?

Or am i stuck with one at a time across all 8 now?

I guess i could start all over again if i had to with the new way you helped me with

So it would look like this?

I can create a folder within a folder?

So if i have a folder named “Music 1” and i want to put music in that folder and not creat “Music 2” , “music 3” etc, which is a huge mess IMO

I can add music to an already existing desk/folder?

When i click those 3 dots on a folder(In server) all i see is "Grant access, scan library files,Analyze.Refresh all metadata,Empty Trash

I do not see a way to add folders

I have 4 seperate music only hard drives, can i just delete the untidy mess I have now and just create one large folder?

Or would each physical drive need its own folder? That would be ok,sure beats the mess I created here now

Thank you for your time

It looks like this for instance on my server. I have 4 different root folders for different music file formats. Yet, since they are all added to the same Plex library, they appear as one big library within Plex.

to expand on what Otto posted, I think we need to clarify a few terms.

  1. drive: A physical or logical disk partition holding data. On Windows these are drive letters. IE F:\
  2. folder/directory: A path to where media is stored IE: F:\Music
  3. Plex Library: A folder or group of folders that can be combined to create 1 repository of similar media (TV shows, movies or music)

In this case you created 8 Libraries instead of adding the folders to an existing library. Using the webUI (and other UI’s) it is possible to search across all libraries for a term. That search bar is the one in the top left. You can also use filters to search within a library.

I did that and added about 20 albums and only one showed up

I tried again with the 3 dots add folder and now all that folders music is gone

Not sure what I did wrong?

EDIT

I made a mistake explaining

What I 1st did was put many LPs onto a physical hard drive that was already in plex. What I was expecting was for plex to auto update any changes to its folders, but it did not,so I refreshed myself to no avail.

Only one of those many LPs showed up

Then I tried the other "add folder " method you mentioned, and then all that entire folder is gone

Thank you mates

Windows doesnt always auto-update, you may need to select the scan library function.

Also Where is your music? is it T:\ or T:\Music ? If its the first, plex has issues with media being in the root of a drive. Second I would suggest looking at https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/
