so i have a nvidia shield, the new version 16gb internal storage running the new oreo update and my plex is on the latest update as well. i have an 8tb external storage connected via usb. it is not set up as internal storage.
here is what is going on. so i had my external connected with a bunch of movies and tv shows and what not and everything was working great. i could access everything thru the web page and i could also stream my content outside my house and all was well. i got some more movies ripped unmounted the external and powered down the shield. i connected the external to my computer and transferred the new files over and started the shield back up. i could still see and access all of my previous files but i couldn’t scan in the new files. they just wouldn’t show up. i could scan them into kodi, but plex just wasn’t showing them.
long story short, i ended up factory resetting my shield and starting over with my plex. now plex won’t find ANY of the movies or t.v. shows. the naming conventions have not changed and all are correct. so i’m at a loss here as what to do to have plex find my files.
There are other threads on this as well. The latest Plex Media Server looks to be the blame. If you factory reset (like I did), you have to rebuild your server and connnect your external drive to be seen by Plex. However, once the server updates to the latest version, you lose the ability for new files to be seen.
I don’t know if any devs have chimed in on this. It’s been ongoing for a few days it seems.
Last week I did a test run setting up my Nvidia Shield as a plex server with just a few files. Everything worked fine. I tried to do some more this weekend and had the same problem as you all are describing. Glad to know its not just me as I was about to give up. Guess i’ll be patient and hope for a fix.
Thanks
Hi! Just to let you know I’m suffering the same issue. I realized the plex server was not able to add new content to the library after Oreo update. Moreover, the whole system became laggy so I decided to preform a hard reset. Now I am with a great empty library. The only thing it is indexinx files for me is to create an “Other Videos” library… Of course in that case you won’t have the related metadata…
Les hope they’ll fix it soon.
Sorry i mean can you look at your logs and look at the hash number that comes after regular version number. it will be at the top of logs. pretty sure it is 200287a06 but just want to double check
It looks like I picked a bad time to buy an Nvidia Shield and BEGIN by setting up the Plex Media Server. I have it running perfectly on my old Mac Pro 1,1 but Plex has changed the iOS requirement on all of my iPads so they can’t see that fine server anymore.
I find this Android device and software so alien from my 30+ years with Apple devices that I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever get ANYTHING set up properly. I’d like to start fresh with Plex after messing up trying to get results, but the system won’t let me uninstall it. On my Macs I’d just kill the Prefs file and start fresh… Quick question - will the server on Shield only see SMB drives? If so, that’s going to really mess up my plans! I’m used to anything
that’s a “share point” being seen by EVERYTHING.
Is there any place for detailed info for Mac folks setting up an Nvidia Shield? Even the Play Store confuses me
It is preinstalled, you can only uninstall the updates like any preinstalled app on android devices from the play store. To wipe data go to the shields settings itself, then under apps find Plex Media Server and wipe its data.
I may have a way to have SMB protocol off of the MacPro where the 4 internal drives serve all of my media files. The current boot drive is running Snow Leopard Server - and before you laugh, a search will show you MANY folks revere this server and its rock-solid performance, even now. The File Service portion of the server allows SMB along with a handful of others. I trashed the server a few years ago when I was trying to set up a Calendar Server and failed, so I’ll have to start over. The entire drive with OS, Plex server (thousands of files), a ServeToMe server and various other apps is less than 40 GB. I may just put it on a flash drive
