Plex Server on UGREEN NAS with Docker

Hello - I transferred my Plex Media Library from a Drobo to the new UGREEN NAS 4800. Since there exists no Server App from Plex, I had to make a Container in the Docker App.

In the Media/Transcoder Folder is nothing. I assume that some strange behaviour results from that.

My general question would be: have I to fill this folder to enable transcoding? On my former ApplicationSupport/Plex/Plex Media Server/Codecs/a31c019-4614-darwin-aarch64/ are 9 exec files called libaac_decoder.dylib etc. Should this be copied into the empty Transcoding Folder in Docker?

I have all my files from the Drobo Mediathek copied to the NAS and they can be opened in all my Plex Players. Even with my Vision Pro I can view files via the Plex App for iPad. Another native App called Aurora stalls during playback often and must be restarted. So some things are not as they should until now.

I hope, I could make my case somewhat clear. I am a total newbie here - help would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Hello again - I still have the transcode question at hand.

Updating the Plex server under Docker does not work either. I am advised to update manually - good thing - but how to do that??

Hopefully someone can help me some steps further.

Thank you in advance - Michael

how did you install plex via docker? did you use docker or docker-compose what are your volume bindings?

Hi and thanks for the post. I installed the Plex Server with Docker using the Docker container. I followed the instructions of How to Install Plex Media Server on a UGREEN NAS – NAS Compares and as a result, I have a running Plex server on my NAS I can use with iOS visionOS and MacOS with the Plex players.

The required folders for the container are all in place and f.e. the Data Folder is in use and items in it.

Only the transcoder folder is still empty. The similar folder in my earlier server on my Mac has some files in it, so I think, Plex needs them. So one of my questions is how to bring the transcoder files in the folder used by the Docker container. It seems that some foreign players like Aurora for the Vision Pro could need those, since the playback stalls here and then. The plex iPad App runs perfectly with the Plex Server of the NAS.

Another unsolved problem is the fact, that I cannot update the updates automatically like earlier on my Mac - manual installation is required but I don’t find info how to do this. The updated server file must go into the Docker container.

Thanks again - Michael

No, this will be empty.

This will be done via the docker app on your nas. Ask ugreen;s support team on how to do this (ugreen has created the custom gui for docker for there nas)

Thanks for the info. Meanwhile I found a quite simple solution: the Docker container for Plex has a built-in update function that updates not only the docker version but the Plex server version as well. The function is hidden under three dots in the container main window.
