Plex Server on WHS 2011

Server Version#: 4.4.1
Player Version#: 3.108.2

Had older Plex on this (My Network Server machine) and it worked fine but since update can’t find server and never had the option (squiggly heartrate sign) to find it. “Finding server” infinity message and nothing else.

RE-installed the older version and although all the previous media I had shows up never updates and can’t play the vidz and movies I had previously.

Any help on this issue?

Restore everything from a backup, databases, etc.

WHS 2011 is End of Life by Microsoft and is now not supported by Plex. Upgrade your OS for support.

That being said, the latest PMS works just fine on my WHS 2011 server.

So then I HAD Plex 1.5.6 that was installed and working (it had been a long time since I used it tho)
Then I dl’ed and tried to install then use the 1.16.5 of which does load but can never find my server with the files. NONE of the files I had have been moved to different locations and it just never finds them (although it should) When I tried to delete and re-install the previous “working” older version the above happened from the original Post

May I ask Jebrossard then what may I be missing?
Also Plex doesn’t support WS 2019 but is simaptico with 2012 R2? Funny.

There are a lot of ppl who use Plex on Server 2019 just fine.
The inability of the web app to find the server is a frequent one.

  1. Verify that you are not running Plex server “virtualized”, so it is actually in a different network segment.
  2. Verify that your server is using the same Plex username as your web browser. Take a look into the Windows registry at the branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server and the key PlexOnlineMail. If this is a different username/email than the one you are using in here to access the forums, perform this procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
  3. Sometimes your DNS resolver (most often in your router) has a feature called ‘DNS rebinding protection’. It usually misfires at Plex’s use of the DNS system and prevents use of the automatically created FQDN of your server. I appreciate the advise.

I think what I will wind up doing is just installing Win Server 2019 (I have access to many of the Win OS software)

Once I do that and attempt a fresh install of it then Plex I’ll report back and chronicle my discoveries.

Thanks a lot to everyone who posted so far this has helped a heap.
