Plex server on windows 10 loosing remote access

On the most recent version of Plex (and for the past 3 versions at least) I have to go into “enable remote access” every single day. The day after when I want to use Plex again its disabled, highly annoying.

Anything I can do ?

Regards,
Emil

Was it disabled or just not working, there is a difference? Not working, there are some things we can check. If it is being disabled, something is definitely wrong because it’s not possible to change that setting. Even if something broke with Plex that setting should stay enabled/disabled and not change.

Let me clear this up. The next day I run plex on my tv my plex server is gone , the tv doesnt see it and that is because the green checbox on the left of the words “Remote access” has gone red

Is your TV on the same network as PMS? If your TV is using a remote connection to get to your server, you have some network setting wrong. Have you gone through this trouble shooting guide? https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204604227-Why-can-t-the-Plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-Plex-Media-Server-

My tv is on the same wired network as the pc that runs plex server. Let me clarify, I have been running plex for a few years now, about 4-5 months ago I upgraded this machine to windows 10 64bit, just recently 4 weeks or so or less, plex started doing this and still is, about every 24-48 hours it looses connectivity, Under Remote connection there is a manually specify a public port 32400, and instead of “apply” on the right of it there is a “retry” button, and I do retry and now its connected to the network again. very very annoying to have to do this. Why cant it just stay connected to the network ?

Emil

I have been assisting many other user over the last few days here with similar issues. Are you using UPnP or manual port forwarding with your router?

I think the remote access shutting off is a symptom of something else. If your TV is on the same network, remote access doesn’t impact it.

Sounds like you did not specify a static IP for your computer. If the IP of your computer changes, that would break remote access. The Plex Smart TV client cannot browse your network and find your server so it needs to be told when it checks in with plex.tv. If your server’s IP changes and hasn’t updated plex.tv, then the TV uses bad data and is looking for the server at the old address. Configure your server for a static IP and I believe things should fix themselves.

My computer is on a static IP, I use DHCP for other things on my network. Computer and TV both static.

I am using manual port forwarding in my router.
The only thing that changed recently is there was a plex update

Both the computer and the tv are on a local network 192.168.100.* network. The reason plex on my tv doesnt see the server anymore is because the plex server software somehow looses the port configuration and I have to click apply again for it to reestablish. This happens with anywhere from 24-48 hour intervals.

Can you post some server logs?

I’m having the same issue since yesterday. Static IP and port forwarded successfully for years. Now suddenly, not so much.

Is your port open if you check here?
www.canyouseeme.org

I might have fixed this now by turning off DDoS protection on my ASUS router…

Have had the same issue yesterday.
I couldn’t connect to PMS by the web interface and i had “retry” the connection check and it worked again.
This hasn’t happend for “ages”.

PMS 1.3.3.3148 is on a static IP on Windows 10 Pro X64.
Connection is in UPnP mode. So no port forwarding enabled.

No issues today!

@ffhjansen Please read my post where I have some observations and solutions for your issue.

as of the last update things seem to be back to normal.

I tried, www.canyouseeme.org and it see’s my port fine.

I will report again if the problem becomes a problem again

Also didn’t noticed the issue anymore after that one time.

nope its gone fubar again. Last thursday and now tonight I had to press the “Retry” button which seems to reconnect the server somehow to plex hq. So still broken.

Okay now its gone up a notch, it keeps turning off that manual port, any suggestions ? its turned it off now 2 times in the last hour

if I uncheck “Manually specfiy public port” it seems to stay alive

now it has reached a new level

No soup for you!

The server you’re trying to access doesn’t want to let you in. Make sure you’re signed in as a user with access to this server.

it keeps disappearing now completely

even : http://127.0.0.1:32400/ doesnt work anymore, wtf???
