Plex Server on Windows will no longer catalog all TV shows

Server Version 4.87.2 (current build)
Player Version# n/a

I’ve Plex Server installed on a dedicated Win10 machine for 2 years.

Following an update in August, the library for TV Shows seemed to “lose” a majority of the shows. And the series it did list had mismatched episodes.

I’ve tried:

  1. Rescanning the library - no change.
  2. Moving to an older version of the server - no change.
  3. Move back to latest version of the server - no change.
4a. Delete the library and re-create with same source folders and new library name- no change.
4b… Delete the library and re-create with original name - no change.
  4. Move several series to a new location and change library to that new location - shows still mismatched and not all found.
  5. Wiped PC and reinstalled Windows and Plex Server with new server name - no change.

I think there is corruption in the TV library and I think the settings are being pulled back in from that option to sync settings.

So is there a way to delete the settings entirely, or is there a way for plex to just blitz my account at the backend and let me create it from scratch please?

Thanks

brian

Matching information is not stored in your account. It lives only on your server.

The number 1 reason for mismatches is bad file naming and folder organization.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

Please give some examples how your shows are named and what the folder structure looks like.

Gonna bet you are using the [SSxEE] naming schema

f:\television\micro men\season 1\se01e01 narrative.mp4

or

f:\television\parks and recreation\season 2\narrative se02e03 narrative.mp4

in the example of parks and rec, i have 7 seasons, yet plex finds one episode in season2 that it says is number 94.

these were cataloged fine for 2 years, so its not like i changed anything from a naming convention.

i am, as per their document.

what should i use please?

Change se01e01

to s01e01

If you have a lot to do consider using a file renaming tool

Rename My TV Series 2

Not sure who’s guide you are using but plex standards have never used the [ ] notation.

My canned response is to see https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ and:

If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use:

Episode format:
${showTitle} - S${seasonNr2}E${episodeNr2} - ${title}

Folder format:
${showTitle} (${showYear}) {tvdb-${tvShow.ids.tvdb}}/Season ${seasonNr2}

as the new name format.
(Please note I linked to the v3 which is free to use)

My mistake I had thought you used the square brackets just to highlight the syntax in your message; ;no i don’t use square brackets  and the guide is the one supplied by Plex.

turns out the solution was simple; turns out it was the ne scanner, changing it to Plex Series Scanner solved it; plex has found all the series again. The Plex TV Series wouldn’t detect them all.

The one that is deprecated and could stop working at anytime.

Then it is 100% a naming issue.
