Plex server random crashes

Is there no crashdump-file also?
Do you have to restart PMS, or is it still (partly) running?

Yes, I could not find any crash dump files.

I’m not sure if it’s “partly” running because in my task bar I can still see the PMS icon, but when I hover my mouse over it, it disappears. I then have to go to the windows Start menu to bring up PMS again.

Ok, in my case it was similar, when hover the icon disappears.
In the Task-Manager PlexMediaServer.exe was gone, but PlexTranscoder was still running.

Check if you really did this:
It’s important to create the folder manually:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps

this is where you should find the Dump for sa2000. - only send by PM because of sensible data.
Also set the registry key to enable the crash log.

This is the only crash report i can find on my PC, my file will not upload :frowning: where do i upload the file?

Well, now that I’ve set everything up to gather all the appropriate dumps and logs, the server isn’t crashing. However, I’ve had to restart the server 2 times because the web app was showing the commercial skipper in progress, but on the server the exe is not running. The dvr continues to record, but none of them ever get processed and transferred to their final destination. The only way I’ve been able to clear this issue is to restart the computer. Shutting down and starting PMS doesn’t clean it up. I will provide crash dumps and log files on the next crash.

zip, upload at dropbox or sth and share the Link to sa2000, only

Well, it crashed, but I was unable to find a crash dump generated by windows. Here is the downloaded logs though.
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-04-10_14-54-07.zip (5.1 MB)

Excellent. I have analyzed the dump and referred it to the development team (with the matching logs which we already have) Thank you

It crashed at 14:06 on 10th April

I can see a crash report was generated by the Plex Media Server breakpad crash reporting module - file identifer: 58b6fcee-9cec-4493-a4fe-0f25c3804272

So you do now have a CrashDumps folder in the LocalAppData folder like this
image

and also the regedit - as here

If you have, was windows rebooted adding this registry key?

I would like us to get a windows dmp file for this crash to see if there is more info than what we have from the Plex Media Server generated crash report files

Thanks

Nothing useful in these - they are from the 6th April - some temp files relating to downloading logs and zipping them

May be %TEMP% is getting purged
The files I was after were from
3rd April at 22:03 - file: 27d2e702-5cc1-4991-bff6-ea17637a3d91
2nd April at 22:03 - file: be79bcd5-bd15-4633-b981-505139a0cf62

for crashing running 1.25.8.5663-e071c3d62

Lets see if you can get crash dumps with the logs from 1.25.9.5721

I have added screenshots relating to the regedit and folder for the windows dump creation here Plex server random crashes - #30 by sa2000

Error 503 suggests the Plex Media Server is still running but most likely deadlocked and requests were just queued up until they reached few thousands at which point it starts returning 503 errors to requests

Deadlocks can only be investigated through getting a forced process dump and debug server logs and where possible to get a list of connections before forcing a dump - the server should in theory allow the specific requests for /connections even when deadlocked - lets switch your problem to this forum topic Server not accessible - Error 503 - #3 by sa2000

The linked post shows the diagnostics needed for deadlocks

The crash reports get emptied and files moved to %TEMP% after uploads or attempts to upload

I can see uploaded crash reports from your server - similar to the crashes still being seen by @DarrenWalker - I do have matching crash reports and logs now and have been referred to the development team

I would like to get windows generated dump file for this crash and I have given instructions
See linked post here Plex server random crashes - #24 by Olli and also screenshots here Plex server random crashes - #30 by sa2000

There is a limit on file size and there is also restriction of file types - to ensure the file type is ok, zip before attempting to upload. If the zip is too big, it would not upload either - in such case upload to Dropbox/ Google drive etc and share a link - if it is a dump - do that by private message to me - but I would need the associated debug server logs for the crash as well

For 503s please switch to the other forum topic I linked to and upload diagnostics there

It was looking like I had the right file in mind. Here you go.

I had set up the HK, but didn’t get a chance to reboot the machine before that crash. I have since rebooted it, but it hasn’t crashed since. I will try to find the windows crash report on the next crash.

Just had another crash
Still no windows dump
Downloaded logs
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-04-11_13-09-21.zip (6.1 MB)
Suspect that this is the dump referenced in the logs
Crash Dumps.zip (45.0 KB)

Another crash this morning. Downloaded logs:
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-04-12_07-35-17.zip (6.0 MB)
The only dump file I can find:
Crash Dumps.zip (80.3 KB)

I think I know why I’m not getting windows dumps. I had named the HK Local Dumps, not LocalDumps. That may make a difference.

I think I have a windows dump.
Crash Dumps.zip (173.7 KB)

Experiencing the same server crash issues since the last couple releases. Box has been stable for over a decade. Installed newest beta and server still randomly crashing/closing. I will try to get some logs as well.

I sent you a PM with a test development build with potential fix for these crashes
Test Build 1.26.1.5744
