Hello,
I am wondering if anyone might be able to help. I am struggling to understand why plex may be having issues connecting to a server. So, I am curious if other Plex owners have noticed a similar issue. Or if it’s just me. I am a lifetime plex pass user.
I have have two NAS devices with video content and these have worked fine up until very recently. A QNAP TS-932PX-4G (upgraded memory since and has ssd cache drives 3 x 1TB) - loaded with 6 x 22TB in Raid 6 and a Terramaster F5-422 loaded with 5 x 16TB. The Terramaster was fine for around a year. And the QNAP has been running fine for about 8 months. Both units run their own plex server app.
I recently added a couple of hdhomerun quattro’s (terrestrial) and a vbox unit for satellite TV (all purchased in the last month). These run off the QNAP.
Within the last month, the Terramaster server became unavailable and never came back online. Power cycles and all the usual remedies didnt help. And I had to completely uninstall the plex server app and reinstall it to get it to work. Initially with issues as ‘enabling’ the app would not restore functionality and not result in the app being enabled.
Initially I had considered I could just migrate video content from the Terramaster to the Qnap as I wasn’t having any issues with the Qnap. And then the Qnap started having similar behaviour to the Terramaster. It too became unavailable with yellow triangles populating on plex.
Both servers are mapped to a windows desktop pc and all shares are available directly. Doing an arp -a shows their ip addresses. I can also ping them quite succesfully.
Specifically, I wouldnt have an issue if I wasn’t using Plex. Plex is the only thing that is struggling.
After having been through a process that seemed to get everything back online, tonight I am having issues again where the Qnap device now shows as being offline on Plex. Only Plex. Windows sees the share. I can ping it and its shows on arp on the command line interface on the windows device too.
Also to note, the Plex Web—Debug option keeps going to disabled. Even after its enabled.
The QNAP is currently going through a RAID Group Synchronising which it expects to take a further 28 hours. Not sure why this should be as there has been no event that should start this (eg disk failure, disk change etc). However, that is what is currently active on the NAS at the moment.
I cannot give a log for the QNAP as the plex web app says its unavailable.
As a side note, as I have had to reinstall plex server, friends of mine who could access content could no longer access content as they needed me to invite them again to do so. I have not done this yet. Therefore, we only have my household connecting to content.
Stephen
Server Version#: shows as 1.41.3 as the file name on the qnap app.
Player Version#: Version 4.141.0
