Plex, show your customers some respect

Yup it’s completely stupid and I wonder how many people have just given up on the app and have done like me, moved to Emby.
More unhappy people here:

I tried it as well. If they have a UWP app I might just send them money even if I’m not using it just so they develop.
I have a feeling I’ll be moving to emby in the not too distant future. The little trial I did of emby implied to me that it is far more sophisticated and their dev team is at least paying attention.

Emby’s uwp app gets frequent updates and syncing works well.

I reported a couple of issues in the past on their forums and the bugs were fixed within a day or two

So… New year, no updates? I took my Surface travelling over the Christmas holiday and emby happily played all my synced content. Plex should really pull the app from the store as they’re just not interested in updating it.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for any kind of update.
UWP has been pretty actively ignored, it’s not something that accidentally slipped PLEX’s attention.

I eventually (begrudgingly) moved over to Android from Windows Phone a few months ago and I don’t travel all that much outside of commuting to university, so I’m not feeling the sync issues all that much.

I don’t envy those who need to sync content to a Windows device. It’s not a pleasant experience.

I moved to android a while ago from Windows phone/mobile but thats not be point. The issue is that Windows 2 in devices like surfaces are ignored as people want a touch enabled interface (PMP is not touch friendly) and use sync when travelling.

Already cancelled my Plex.
I paid for Plex for

  1. Music videos (they cut that almost immediately)
  2. Plex Mix (This barely works because the search does not search the ‘Album Artist’ tag and they refuse to fix it.)
  3. Syncing (This is dead on Windows, which is 100% of my 20 devices.)
  4. Offline play (When my internet went out for 3 days I couldn’t even USE Plex cause it wouldn’t let me sign in! I ended up using emby which worked perfectly!)

Moral of the story, so long suckers.

So where’s the UWP update?

You guys delivered an ‘okay’ app for macOS (my two machines at work are MBPs) but I also want to stream content from my Plex server to my Windows 10 machines - like the podcasts I start listening while commuting and want to finish them on my Xeon workstation at home.

The UWP app is obviously dead. And its my biggest frustration with Plex overall. They created an app, still charged plex pass users for it, then completely abandoned it without so much as a word. Then some empty promises and nothing.

Its clear that they have moved on to plex media player. Since it uses the web interface, its likely easier for them to maintain. And in some ways its superior, as it direct plays more formats. But its my understanding that it doesnt sync, and since it uses the web interface, touch controls are terrible. So for anyone that uses their windows machines as tablets or touch devices, its just not a good option. And its so ridiculous that to use it I often have to use plex for android as a remote control… for a computer thats right next to me…

At the very least plex, tell us its dead and let us know if there is ever going to be an alternative.

Yup it’s the false promises and complete lack of communication on this that gets me every time. Just tell us it’s dead, pull it from the store and be done with it.

Tick, tock. Star date 16/04/19 - last seen update of Windows app May 2017…

Sounds dead to me. I’m not management nor do I make product announcements.

If it were me, I’d move on and find another solution; logic being: If you don’t have anything by now, read the handwriting on the wall.

@elan care to comment, or do you just don’t care?

Why wouldn’t I care?

If we haven’t released an app update in a couple of years, you can read the writing on the wall. With Windows Phone dying, and Plex Media Player running on Windows, it’s hard to see us spending more energy on the UWP app. That being said, we do recognize that it’s missing features compared to the UWP app (notably: sync), so you might imagine that we’d like to remedy that.

I personally apologize for the lack of communication on this, we honestly hoped to have more updates along the lines of what I’m mentioning above sooner.

Well, it seems like you don’t care when you and your team don’t address topics like this one that span years and hundreds of posts.

Paying customers should know where things are going and what works and what doesn’t. If I were one of the customers that paid for Plexpass to get sync working on a Windows device, as it’s advertised, I would be absolutely furious. Paying customers shouldn’t have to “see the writing on the wall”, the company should take it’s responsibility, respect it’s customers and announce that the app is EOL. The UWP app should just be pulled from the windows store at this point, it’s so bad.

That said, thanks for finally saying it, and recognizing that PMP should have sync ability. It has been requested since PMP was released.

Sidenote, why not just port the Xbox app, add sync and call it a day? Isn’t it UWP already?

The Xbox app is based on our HTML/TV interface.

“We don’t want to talk to our paying customers. Please go, read the writing on the wall!”

Holy cow. Everytime I think Plex has reached now their abolute low, you show me that you can do much, much worse.

Well, that apology is justified.

I’m not in any way flaming as I’m in a very good place with Plex of late thanks to UNO and the obvious work being done regarding playback decision smarts. But…

…I really feel we shouldn’t be need to wait for months/years to read a hypothetical wall. Many months ago I managed to pin you personally down regarding the situation with PfK.
I think between the UWP and PfK apps there have been around 30 threads asking about the situation, some of them very long… almost every one without any input from any Plex employee including Ninjas.
Please, in the future if any other apps fall by the wayside can we be told up front
rather than having to wait 12 months before having to draw our own conclusions?

I wish other apps would create so fast Thumbnails as UWP does when Browsing through the app. I purchased the app for Windows Long time ago and loved the whole look of it and like I metioned the Speed.
Very sad.

Elan, I’m not trying to flame you, but this is a really, really terrible thing to say. If it’s dead, just say so. This weird “It’s dead but we’re not going to say it’s dead” thing is just dumb.
