Plex shutsdown over night

Server Version#: 4.57.4
Player Version#:
The Plex server starting shutting down overnight. This started happening after the last two Plex program updates. I restart the program and it works until sometime during the night. I don’t see any errors and the server shows the program as running. It may be a network problem unique to the Nas as everything else on the network is working.

Would you mind including the PMS logs from before/after such a shutdown?
Otherwise we’ll only be able to guess

Sorry just uploaded latest logs

Hmm… that log only shows a single crash that happened today at 10:40 your local time during scanning the photos from a share on your QNAP.
There’s some network discovery calls… but those seem unrelated to your crash – at least there’s more occurrences of those calls in your logs that seem to be working just fine (no crashes)

Thanks for looking. The problem seems to happen at different times now. I did not realize the Plex server was down until I attempted to access it this morning. I then stopped it and restarted and the server was online. I am not getting any alarm emails from the NAS server or from Plex. The PLEX server simply dies.I noticed the problem after the last flurry of updates. I will continue to forward logs up maybe you can see something.

Hi Tom happened again please see logs

Please see if this issue persists even with the new release of Plex Media Server you just installed (1.23.3.4707).

Plex shutdown after I installed the latest update. Please review the logs.
thanks JK

Plex failed again. Does anyone have any ideas?

If I may jump in here?

I do not know what you have going on with the Codex Pack but you need to

  1. Get control of where it monitors because Codex Pack creates artificial paths and the illusion of data in places it does not exist.

  2. Codex Pack has been a major detriment and conflicting package with PMS since it was introduced.

  3. Please look at this –

This is showing me that somewhere , one of your Libraries thinks /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA is where to start scanning for media.

This is incorrect. You need to include the top of the shared folder.

e.g /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/movies

Hi, I did as you suggested and modified all my libraries to start at their root location bypassing codex pack. The server ran comopletely last night I will continue to monitor. Thanks for the suggestion. JK

Plex crashed again sometime last night. I corrected the Library as suggested but have the same problem. I am optimizing the Database now. Anybody have suggestions?

@Jkelley105

Thanks for the log.

I see where it was updating photos and crashed.
I also found something I don’t like and will ask engineering. It might, but also might not, be related.

Would you mind doing the following?

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
  2. Disable “Send Crash Reports to Plex”
  3. SAVE that change.
  4. Create a shared folder named “PlexData” anywhere you’d like.
  5. Restart Plex.

We’ll use the PlexData shared folder linkage into the package storage area to grab the core dump file for engineering.

Now, we wait for it to crash again.
When it does -

  1. File Station
  2. PlexData / Plex Media Server / Crash Reports / This_Version / PLEX MEDIA SERVER
  3. You’ll find a .dmp file
  4. Make a ZIP of that
  5. Attach the current logs + that ZIP file

I will look at it and report to Engineering

I did as you requested. I will send the new logs and Dmp file after the next crash.

Thanks,

It’s failing in the scanner somewhere (I think).

I’ve seen a couple reports but haven’t figured out what causes it .

Would you change your scheduled tasks to not scan during maintenance ?

(process of elimination is probably our best hope here)

Hi,
My options are to Scan automatically, Run a Partial scan, Scan Periodically. I choose to turn off Scan periodically. The others seem to need a media change to run.
