I have a WD my cloud EX2 Ultra. When I launch the Plex Media server app, it asks to sign in. It does not have the option to sign in with google. It does not recognize the google credentials. If I go to “sign up” it says the username is already in use. Is there a workaround to get signed in? Or do I have to create a new and unique account?
sounds like you’re in the sign-up dialog, trying to create a new account instead of logging in.
can you double-check? the dialogs look nearly the same…

Here is a picture. It doesn’t offer to sign in with google. If I hit sign up and use the same credentials it says account already exists. I assume that I will just have to create a new account with user name and password?
as stated before… “sign-up” is about creating a NEW account. as your e-mail address is already registered with Plex, you cannot create a NEW account for it again – hence the error message.
Ignore the Sign-up option!
Which version of the Plex Media Server do you have installed on your WD My Cloud?
Minimum version required to use 3rd party logins is version 1.8.4.

just checking with a new browser and my own server… the login dialog looks a little different (except that it includes the google/facebook options)

Edit: fixed the screenshot and some formatting

It says it is version 1723878
Which does not make sense to me. I don’t see an option on the App area for updating the version. Does this mean anything to you?
By the way, thank you for your time. I appreciate it.
The link you sent had a section about adding a password. That did the trick. Thanks a lot!
Add a Plex Password to a Google or Facebook Account
If you first started using Plex with your Google or Facebook account, you don’t have a Plex password. You can add a regular password to your account at any time. This allows signing in to the Plex account without Google or Facebook, using the account email address and password.
Sign in to the Plex web app.
Visit your Plex account page.
In the Password section, you should see Not set, showing that you do not have a password yet.
On the Accounts tab, click the Edit link the Password section.
Enter your new account password (be sure to choose a strong, unique one!) and then confirm it.
Click the Save Changes button.
You can now sign in to your account using a password by choosing Continue with Email on any Plex login page.
sounds like 1.7.2.3878 (pre 1.8.4).
if your WD Cloud doesn’t offer you the option to update the app through their app center, you can try manually installing the latest version from https://www.plex.tv/downloads (“Download Plex Media Server > NAS > Western Digigal”).
I am asking myself this for a couple of months too, I remote log into my Windows 2012 server, with a administrator account, and with that account I had PLEX installed years ago, and not registered. I could get into my Plex without logging in, I said without logging in, on my server… After I registered, it always asks me to log in, this should be an option, and not pushed like Microsoft pushes updates…
After this went on a while I thought, well, maybe because of security I add some users with partial access to my library, this login process I really understand, but on my server??? where NO-ONE else can get access to? logged in as the top domain user? and a program like plex-server asks me to verify my login and two-way authentication???
What is that good for ???
This should be removeable at once…
I know this thread is rather old, but I have this problem a very long time now and finally I speak up!
