How can I use an existing PMServer (on a Synology) with a new Plex account (account, not user)?

Hi everyone,

I have a Plex server running admirably on a Synology. My Nokia streaming box 8010 works very well with it.

But: When making my original Plex account I signed in with Google. I consider this a mistake, for privacy reasons.

I have made another Plex account without Google.
Now I want to tell the Plex media server to work with/connect to my new Plex account.

How can I do that?

There is no need for that. Your original Plex account is still independent from Google, even though you used your Google account to authenticate.
You can also add a regular password to that old Plex account.
Then remove the link with Google from the Plex account.

You can add a password to your Plex account, then use your e-mail and Plex password to sign in.

There are some advantages to using Google to sign in to Plex, such as warnings of suspicious logins.

If you still want to claim your server using a different Plex account:

  1. Uninstall Plex Media Server. When prompted, choose the “Sign out and unclaim this server” option.
  2. Go to your list of Authorized Devices. Delete the server if it is still listed.
  3. Go to Account Settings.Click on your account icon in the upper right corner and choose Sign Out.

You’ve now removed the server from the undesired account. Time to reinstall and claim with desired account.

  1. Reinstall the same version of Plex Media Server. When prompted, choose the Plex Claim Token method.
  2. Go to the web site, plex.tv/claim. Login using the desired account.
  3. Copy / paste the claim token into the Plex installation window.
  4. If successful, you will see a “server successfully claimed by …” message.
  5. You can now login and access the server.
