Plex Skins on Rasplex

@Seanhonour:
The issue you describe is known for an old version of that skin, and was due to improvements made for RasPlex beyond the features of official PHT 1.4.1. (Improvements later added also to OpenPHT.)

This should be fixed in the latest versions of the “Plex Black Edition” skin, so please download the latest version and see if any issue still remains.

All Plex skins are found in the main forum section “Third Party Skins” linking to the subforum “Skins for Plex Home Theater” for the PHT skins. That subforum in turn contains separate subforums for most major PHT skins, including “Plex Black Edition”. Here is a direct link to that subforum.
https://forums.plex.tv/categories/plex-black-edition

In that subforum the thread “RELEASE: Plex Black Edition” contains all recent releases in its first post.
The one you want is V15.12.23 (this version number is really its last modification date).

Best regards: dlanor

Thanks @dlanor that release of the skin is awesome! hope someone continues to update this skin, it is by far the best!

Hi there,

Sorry to resurrect the post. I’m a self confessed Noob with Rpi, and I cannot for the life of me seem to find the .plexht part as listed below using WINCP

  • using WINSCP, login to rasplex (user “root”, password “rasplex”)
  • navigate to /storage/.plexht/addons

I read elsewhere that it is a hidden file within the RPi itself, but no idea how to access it (I’m using Windows).

Any help would be super appreciated.

Enable the “Show Hidden Files” if you are using WinSCP. The (dot) is what makes them hidden.

I’ve dropped the “skin.plex_black_editionHT” folder into /storage/.plexht/addons/ and rebooted RasPlex (twice). I just can’t find anywhere to “turn on” the skin. Help?

Go to Preferences->Appearance->Advanced->Skin and press enter/ok, select skin, press enter/ok. It will take some time to load.

Regards

Thanks Ned, I don’t know why I couldn’t find that!

Thanks for the instructions, great skin!

Hi,

I just installed the plex black skin on rasplex and wanted to give some indication on the way to set up a skin under rasplex (quite simple actually but easier to do if it is explained)

  • unrar the downloaded skin on your computer

  • download and install WINSCP

  • using WINSCP, login to rasplex (user “root”, password “rasplex”)

  • navigate to /storage/.plexht/addons

  • upload the complete unrared directory to this location

  • reboot rasplex

done…

Is it possible to use live tv with the skin?

Is it possible to use live tv with the skin?
LiveTV · RasPlex/RasPlex Wiki · GitHub

The ‘LiveTV’ page you linked to instructs the user to switch from the “Mediastream” skin to the “Confluence” skin, both of which no longer exist in modern RasPlex and OpenPHT versions. That page has not been updated since June 2013, over three years ago, so I strongly doubt that any of the methods described there can be used with a modern RasPlex setup.

I actually have 2 questions, if someone wouldn’t mind:

  1. I switched to the included Aeon Neon skin in Rasplex. How do I switch back to the default Plex skin? I looked through all the system menus and if it’s there, it’s not intuitive.
  2. While using the Aeon Neon theme/skin, I couldn’t figure out how to add the Youtube plug-in to channels. Is that just not an option or did I miss it?

Thanks in advance.

Since @benjaminwolf already replied to your first question, I’ll only deal with your second question here.

In OpenPHT/RasPlex there are three different methods of accessing channels, two of which only allow access to channels already installed for your PMS server. Those two methods both start by selecting the “Channels” entry in the main menu, and then either using DPad-Right to select a channel in the ‘fanout’ to the right of the menu and enter that channel by ‘Enter’ key or OK button (depending on your form of remote), or pressing Enter/OK on the main menu entry to enter the full list of channels installed for your PMS server.

Adding new channels to the list must be done through a special submenu, opened by using the “Channel Directory” entry from the home screen’s side menu (the same one where you find “Preferences” and “Shutdown” etc). That “Channel Directory” submenu contains several additional submenu entries allowing you to find and install new channels for your PMS server (or remove any that malfunction or just not fit your taste).

This is how it works with any modern skin well adapted to current RasPlex/OpenPHT versions, so not just for the “Aeon Nox” skin (which I assume is what you meant by “Aeon Neon”).

dlanor,

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I apologize, I meant Aeon Nox, I was trying to remember the name while at work, hence the flub.

I’m a little familiar with the basic Kodi/XMBC interface from using a Midnight GX2 box in the past and had looked exactly where you mentioned but there’s no YouTube choice anywhere. I searched through every submenu there. I’ve also checked in my PMS, YouTube isn’t a choice to add there either. I’m not sure why I can’t see it. I watched the YouTube video about RasPlex from my PC, where they mention how improved their YouTube plug-in is but can’t find anywhere to add it.

@KeekUras:
Well, not all channels are part of the official ‘Channel Directory’. For some of them you’ll need to browse to a forum or home page of the channel author (frequently somewhere on ‘github’), in order to download a channel bundle for manual installation into the ‘plugins’ folder of PMS. But some others can be installed by the new “Unofficial AppStore v2” that is one of the parts of the “Webtools” PMS plugin. That is a plugin, but not a channel. Instead you can access it as a web server from a web browser, to access various PMS-related tools, including the UASv2 used for installing some of the channels without official Plex Inc support.

Now that I think back on the Youtube channel in particular I have a vague memory about the official Youtube plugin being broken some time ago, with no fix forthcoming, which explains why it’s not in the directory. There is a 3rd-party replacement though, which I use myself, named “YouTubeTV”. But this is one of those you must find and install manually as it can’t be done through any client program.

You’ll find more info about and download links for that channel through this other forum page:

Thanks for the response. I think I’ll pass on channels if they need to be manually installed. I don’t want to maintain several separate pieces.

That’s up to your choice of course. But to have a proper basis for that decision you should be aware that for most 3rd-party channels it’s only the initial installation that needs to be done ‘manually’. Updates can in most cases be done from ‘inside’ the channel as you access it in a Plex client. I updated the “YouTubeTV” channel myself yesterday, just by browsing the channel in OpenPHT (== RasPlex on PC), and there simply clicking an option poster in the channel’s menu. So for this and many other 3rd-party channels the ‘maintenance’ is quite simple.

Best regards: dlanor

I wanted to share my experience that Plex Black Edition is an actively maintained skin. It keeps up with the latest features of the OpenPHT. As of right now I installed OpenPHT 1.7.1 and Black Edition skin 17.01.03. They work perfectly together.

Hi,

I’m having issues to connect to my odroid c2 using WINSCP or Filezilla. I always get the massage that the connection was refused. I’m in the same network using a Windows 10 PC. It makes no differnces using a wired or a wifi connection with the PC. The odroid is wired. I also tried to disable my firewall. I tried “rasplex” and “openpht” as passwords.

Does anyone have an idea what else I can try or what could be the problem why I cannot connect?
