Plex "Smart" TV app not very smart: weird disappearance, not remembering colours, etc

Hi. I have the same issue on Plex on two Sony Bravia TVs, both very modern.

  1. 75 inch X950H (last year’s top non-OLED model)
  2. 85 inch X91J (this year’s top non-OLED model)

On both, the Plex app does the same thing. Sometimes, randomly, it’ll stop showing the subtitles. I have to restart the TV…then the subtitles work. Or sometimes I can go into a different app like Netflix, watch something for a few seconds, then revert to the Plex app …and then subtitles work.

Other times the subtitles do show up, but not with my settings: I like subtitles in yellow, and in “small” size. But they show up in a giant white font. So I again restart the TV.

What’s this for, and how can I fix it once and for all?

My Internet is 1 GBPS, and on Wifi I get around 250 mbps on any device. Including the TV.
