I’m running out of ideas. At intervals, Plex stops serving media. The client is still running. All of the titles are there, so it’s not a server offline thing, but if you try to play anything, it says that it can’t.
If I exit the client and re-open it, everything works fine again. It’s like the client gets “tired” and stops doing its job. To remedy this, I opened Windows Task Scheduler, and have a task running nightly which reboots the server, thinking that might be a work around. It still happens a few hours later.
Anyone get the feeling that with the addition of ad-supported hosted media on Plex that they no longer want to be in the home library business and instead are positioning themselves to be bought out by a large streaming provider?
Which web client are you using? Embedded, or hosted? Embedded is the one you get if you browse to the server by IP address (or localhost). Hosted is the one you get if you browse to https://app.plex.tv. You should always prefer the hosted (app.plex.tv) version as it is always up-to-date. Just refresh the page occasionally.
I’m viewing my server from app.plex.tv and everything looks the way that it should. If I use any connected device; (Roku, Mobile App, Smart TV, even the browser itself) it says that the content is inaccessible. (Can’t give the exact error, as it’s working at the moment.)
I found out that my Task Scheduler wasn’t rebooting the computer before because of a Windows 11 password requirement for the task. The task is now working. I will pause it for a bit and see what the offline media text actually says.
The Plex client is still running, but if you pull up the library, the Home screen says:
No content available
Check your network connection and verify that any media servers are online.
If I click on one of the individual categories, (Movies, Music, TV, etc) it says:
Something went wrong
An unexpected error occurred.
If I click on the tray icon, and tell it to exit, then re-open it from the Start Menu, everything is normal again.
