Plex streams on my Hisense but not on my LG

Server Version#: 8.3.0
Player Version#: 5.75.1

Plex running on my LG OLED65B3PUA has recently started hanging after 10 seconds of play on most of my HD movie (MKV) files. After 2 minutes i get the message ‘Playback Error, An unexpected playback problem occurred’.

To my knowledge, I did not change any settings that would have caused this. It runs perfectly fine on my Hisense Roku Smart TV 75R63G.

Both TVs are ethernet wired on the same network, have versions of Plex that are up to date, and have all of the default options enabled such as ‘direct play’ and ‘direct stream’.

If I toggle direct play or stream on and off I can get my media to play on my LG but the image converts into something I don’t want to watch. The color becomes desaturated and blotchy.

I have deleted and reinstalled plex on my LG and that didn’t help. I have also toggled many settings to search for a change in result, almost to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

After more toggling of settings, I have discovered it is related to the audio stream. It seems like 7.1 channel audio on some HEVC MKV files cause my LG webOS Plex to hang and then error out. I do not believe this is a bandwidth error because the hang and error occurs on for example a 15 Mbps stream and not on some of my 50 Mbps streams.

This is kinda of a bummer because not all of my videos have 5.1 which generally works fine and I refuse to listen in stereo.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Easy fix that took me 3 days to figure out :smiling_face_with_tear:

I enabled DTS in the audio setting on my Plex client. I guess they have it off by default :man_shrugging:t4:

However, I am still confused as to why my Hisense Roku TV did not have the same problem with the same settings.
