Plex stutter when subtiles are activated on the Shield

Hello everyone,

I’ve already encountered this problem in the past, but never received a response after the 90-day rule. Unfortunately, the issue is still present. You can see my previous post here: Plex stutter when subtiles are activated on Android TV 4K content

Since then, my setup has changed, but the problem persists. I’m now using an Nvidia Shield Pro 2021, while still using my Synology DS423+ NAS.

Most of the time, playback stutters when watching 4K files encoded in x265 or AV1 format with SRT subtitles enabled on my Shield. By “stutter,” I mean that the buffering bar (pre-download) is slower than the playback speed.

I’ve noticed a few things that can temporarily fix the issue, but not consistently:

  • Reinstalling the Plex app on my Shield sometimes resolves the problem.
  • Disabling subtitles, returning to the menu, and then re-enabling them sometimes helps too.

This suggests that the issue isn’t related to my hardware, but rather to the software.

Could you please help me this time? I’d really appreciate it — this issue is driving me crazy.

How many subtitle tracks are listed ?

Most of the time, there are usually 2 or 3 subtitles, never more.

I managed to reduce the redundancy of this error by disabling the embedded subtitle option in the Plex client settings, and it seems to have resolved most of the errors that occurred before. It’s strange that this option has caused so many problems for all this time.
