Plex Sync Conversions Slow on Synology

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: 7.25.3.14365 I know this is an old version but I will describe below

I really tried everything I knew of and browsed the Plex forums for quite some time now and did not find an answer to my problem.

Basically it takes hours to sync a video file. As you can see in the screenshot below it’s in a speed of 0.3x or even worse sometimes.

The CPU is used at a solid 20% when transcoding in this ultimate low speed:

I have a Synology DS918+ which has hardware transcoding so I checked this in the settings
Funny thing is if I uncheck this it goes up to 1.5x with transcoding but then my CPU really hurts at 100% So I guess there has to be something wrong with the transcoder.
Here are the logs:

Now why I use the old version of the player on my OnePlus 6T android phone:
Even dough I’m in the same network as the server this appears:

I can’t play a single frame with the version that came out on Dec 19. 2019
And yes I tried reinstalling… I even tried resetting my phone which did not help at all. Maybe some complications with OnePlus-Devices?
EDIT And I don’t know if you can see this or not but on the left of my screen there is a black box… This is also there while playing the movie since I have a notch on the OnePlus 6T and even dough I set “Zoom” in playback settings it just won’t use the area even dough Plex is able to use it in the menu while selecting the movie.

I’m going to make a very unusual suggestion:

  1. Uninstall the version you have
  2. Download and install the version from the Synology Package Center
  3. Retest and compare your results.

I have the same behaviour on Ds918+. Conversion rate of x2-x3 with 20% CPU use on Android player. It used to be much faster - last time I used sync was around Sept/Oct last year. This would have been on an earlier server release as tend to keep server software up to date

Issue only seems to be with x265. X264 converts very very quickly.

I’ve never understood why conversion is needed at all on a device that can direct play the file but that’s another matter.

Anyway as stands sync essentially unusable for x265 unless you plan hours or even a day ahead depending on number of syncs.

May be unrelated but I suspect this is something to do with hardware transcoding not working for sync anymore at least properly? I recall very similar behaviour when server tried to transcode for srt subtitles on x265 before all the great changes that allow direct play of art subtitles on LG. It used to try to transcode using one thread I think showing 20% CPU or thereabouts and was very slow which meant buffering.

Anyway hope a fix is in the offing as sync is a useful feature

I’m having similar issues with the same model… I’ve got an apple tv and now bought the shield TV - it’s driving me absolutely insane! Sometimes the devices won’t even see the plex server, sometimes it does - when I start playing a move it pauses all the time to sync… then sometimes it says not enough bandwidth… I’ve got the Synology drive and the apple TV on its own gigabit switch - there is no way its using that much bandwidth… this started happening in December - before it worked great! I’ve tried to kill plex and start over, updated all the plex software, etc. still the same thing… I’ve even doubled the memory and put 2 TB worth of M2 cards in there… streaming from a PC works great… zero issues… Apple TV and Shield - no dice… HELP!
