I’ve been experiencing multiple crashes on Plex Transcoder. I’ve made a few threads before with no luck on a solution. I’d appreciate if someone could lend an experts eye how to faultfind this.
What I then did, was admit defeat and reverted back to an old version of PMS. So I downgraded to Plex-Media-Server-1.9.3.4290-9798172d4
With this version the server once again worked perfectly. Not a single Transcoder-crash for 3+months. Same movies/videos.
In a hunt to narrow down when the problems starts I’ve tried upgrading again - now to PlexMediaServer-1.15.1.710-ece95b3a1-x86
With this version I instantly had problems and went back a step to: Plex-Media-Server-1.14.1.5488-cc260c476
Again problems. So I decided to upgrade to the newest version. 1.18.2.2058 again problems.
With problems I specifically try one movie that I’ve found crashes the transcoder (or locks it into an endless buffer). But to be perfectly clear - this same movie I’ve had 3 people watching on different type of platforms with no problems when I had 1.9.3.4290-9798172d4. Only now it doesn’t work well anymore.
I’ve not narrowed down where between 1.9.3.4290-9798172d4 and 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476 but can of course do that if there’s value in it?
The problems I’m experiencing is not every movie and a specific time that crashes the transcoder. It has (now and historically) shown irregular behavior as in, not crashing on the same place every time etc. I’m currently watching another movie in the background, so far so good - however some videos take 40 min before they crash and some already after 5.
I’ve downgraded twice, but wasn’t paying attention to the versions I was DL’ing since I assumed the “previous” one would be good enough. Doesn’t seem like it.
I have been experiencing the same type of issue. I have recently switched to 1080p 265 as opposed to 720p. I also have automatic subtitles on. I have noticed a workaround in some cases is changing the pre-selected subtitle format from ASS to SRT. In some cases it works, though not all.
I guess I will be reverting to 193. Thanks for the input OP.
This windows manager event ID is always there and has been for 100’s of crashes from end of summer until sometime during the spring. This time the server didn’t reboot but most of the time this summer it’s also caused an kernel-error (event ID 41) that has just rebooted the computer.
