PLEX transcoding causing player to crash

Hi Support.

I’ve been having some issues for a while now with PLEX crashing during transcoding to the point where I’m just avoiding transcoding altogether…but I’d like to use this feature what with it being a benefit of my PLEX pass subscription.

I am using the Nvidia SHIELD as PLEX server connected to a NAS for shares.

I replicated the issue by playing a file at original quality on the SHIELD’s plex client and used my laptop to initiate a transcode from 1080p H264 to 720p High preset. Almost immediately the playback on my shield was stuttery and kept freezing until shortly after when I get the PLEX logo and everything crashes. Curiously the transcoded stream keeps playing so maybe it’s the SHIELD PLEX player crashing I have no idea…

Anyway, logs attached, this part jumps out to me and showed up pretty much as soon as my SHIELD playback crashed:

I’m on Server version 1.14.1.5490 and Player version 7.14.1.9954

Just had the exact same thing happen. Plex gave me an error about not being able to retrieve the play queue or something, and I saw “[PlexRelay] kex protocol error: type 7 seq 11” in the logs. Lost my progress in the video I was watching. Very annoying.

I have the exact same problem. It started when my Plex app updated to 7.14.1.9954 on my Toshiba smart TV. I get a couple of shudders in video and the Plex app restarts.

Using the Plex app on my smart phone everything runs great.

Are you using the Nvidia Shield as server?
