Plex transcoding error with subtitles enabled

Server Version#: 1.18.3.2156
Player Version #: 6.6 apple tv (error also exist in LG/Phillips smart tv app and windows player)

When playing a video with the plex player i getr the error: (translated from dutch)
something whent wrong with player your media, try again. conversion failed, the transcode has been terminated becease of an error"

This happens only when i select any external srt subtitle file. (downloaded with bazarr and directly with the plex app)

The error will appear when starting a new video, or changing the subtitles when the video is already started (5-10 minutes)

When i use infuse app as the player with the same subtitle files, this error does not occur.

Is there any known problem?

Server Version 1.18.4.2171

Same problem here.

This is a known problem with the iHD_drv_video.so file.

PMS 1.18.3.2175 (forum preview / test) contained a fix.

I suggest trying it. If that still fails, delete the driver under /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/dri (on Linux) and restart PMS.

Thank you!!

Hi Plex, I waited a moment for the update in Beta, but I still can’t find the update of PMS (Linux).
Is there a date when PMS 11.18.3.2175 or higher become available for plex pass users?

PMS 1.18.4 is currently available but does not contain any transcoder fixes.
PMS 1.18.5 will likely be available on Monday but it doesn’t contain any transcoder fixes either (AFAIK)

I have this issue too. Very frustrating. Had years of great use out of plex and subtitles havent worked for a little while now.

For reference I am using android phones and tablets and a sony android tv

What version of Plex Media Server do you have installed?

The latest public release. I updated today but still no luck.

I’m running a 9900k, 32gb ram and a 1080ti if that makes any difference

DEBUG log files, capturing the start of playback, will be needed to see what Plex is doing.

The logs will show me

  1. PMS version being used (which directly linked to iHD_drv_video.so)
  2. The decision made by the MDE

Nvidia and the iHD are mutually exclusive.

Hi ChuckPa, sorry but this is my first real problem with plex. Where do I get the logs?

Do I need to exit plex, delete the logs, then restart plex and try to run a movie with subtitles to give you a clean set of logs?

Also do I upload the logs here or email them to you?

From within the browser , you can get the logs

Settings - Server - (go to the left panel) - Troubleshooting - Download Logs

As long as you start the playback, let it fail, then capture the log ZIP (it will give it to you), Everything I need will be in the first log. I’ll also be able to see and correlate previous attemps.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-03-11_19-42-27.zip (9.2 MB) Attached are the latest logs. Hopefully you can see something. Interestingly if I play using Plex Web in a browser on my server PC the move with its subtitles plays fine. If I play on my phone or TV with subtitles, I get errors. Sadly though the phone or my tv are my usual places for watching.

Which version of the Android app is this?

7.30 beta was withdrawn
7.28 & 7.29 have problems.

I’m not sure how you find the version number in app.
The one on my phone at least is fully up to date. As should the TV version.
I even reset the tv completely and re-installed Plex but still have the same issue.

the app version is always available under the “Settings - About” (just like any other app)

when you install fresh, you get current public release

while i can’t support (due to sheer volume) side loading older versions. a little bit of uninstall and adb connect <device> followed by adb install -r filename.apk is a good thing

Me and my users are having the same issue with TV/console (Xone and PS4) as well. The movie fails to transcode at least 3 times while it is being watched.

Log files are needed which capture the failure.

Can’t address anything without seeing it.
