I’m running the latest stable release of Plex Media Server, using the web browser as a player.
It seems that whenever I add Dragon Ball Z the season names are in Japanese instead of English, though English is the default language selected.
For Yu Yu Hakusho, it seems that the release year is set as 2015-02-09
I have all my files named with FileBot, the structure is e.g Yu Yu Hakusho/Season 01/Yu Yu Hakusho - S01E01 - Description, same for Dragon Ball Z.
I have attempted this with a new library, I have done the plex dance, restarted the server, restarted the machine, combinations of all of the above but nothing worked.
Is this an issue with the plex agent itself or am I doing something wrong?
I believe you can disable this behavior by editing the library to not use season titles (under Advanced)
It doesn’t help that thetvdb will by default information from the show’s native language unless you’re logged in, so Plex is seemingly only pulling Japanese season names for anime.
Otherwise, for certain series, you can change the database source to something like the movie database.
Yeah I do appreciate the season titles though, sometimes it actually pulls them in English not japanese. It’s quite surprising how it doesn’t pull them in the correct language all the time considering TVDB has the proper titles translated. I wonder if it’s not sending the right api call or if it’s not processing the received data properly.
This is interesting. Do you have Use original titles enabled on the library ?
From what I understood season titles would only work if ordering was done via TMDB but maybe with the new TVDB api changes plex is now picking these up. I’m sure @drzoidberg33 will be able to confirm.
It seems that it filled up the English season names for me because for some reason, although the default Library option was set to episode ordering from TheTVDB, it was pulling metadata and episode ordering from the Movie DB.
I clicked on edit, saw it was set as TVDB already, shrugged, clicked save without changing anything and it refreshed it with TVDB japanese names. Very strange issue, maybe I had it set to the movie db before doing the dance so it just loaded that metadata, although as far as I understand when emptying trash & cleaning bundles the previous metadata should’ve been removed.
I’m still quite confused on why Yu Yu Hakusho shows that it was made a decade after it was actually made. Using the previous agent and choosing TVDB pulls up the correct date, but the new agent doesn’t seem to want to do it.
We’re using IMDb as a source for this show release date but sometimes their api gives us dates that are not “correct” (they provide a production date but no context what it’s for).
This is also difficult to fix as it doesn’t show up anywhere on their site, we’re discussing making some changes here to address this.
