Season names are fetched with the wrong language

Server Version#: 1.55.0.3278-c6164b3c

This is the same issue as Plex TV Series agent has some issues with anime, except that the issue linked in that thread (/seasons/{id}/extended does not support meta=translations · Issue #85 · thetvdb/v4-api · GitHub) has been closed for a while, and yet I still get the wrong season name. For example I get this for https://thetvdb.com/series/saint-seiya/seasons/official/1 this season:

Is it supposed to work now? Or did plex never fix it on their side once tvdb fixed it on theirs?

Wild shot in the dark but do you have Use Original Titles enabled within the advanced settings of your tv library?

No, it’s disabled.

Okay, pity. I use tmdb ordering and never have had a problem with translated season titles. Must be something up with tvdb and plex pulling that metadata.

Anyhow, hopefully someone from plex can look into it.

I tried it with both TVDB and TMDB and both work for me.

The only thing that changes between the 2 is the poster but everything is in English

His posters are even in Japanese

You are using the Plex TV Series agent, right?
If so and refresh metadata didn’t change anything maybe plex dance it

If you’re using the TVDB agent this could be an example of that agent not getting updates and bug fixes

Yes, I’m using the TV Series agent.

I tried the plex dance, still nothing. I even tried manually removing the season name and refetching the metadata, and it fetched the japanese title again. I also tried with other japanese series and they have the same problem.

For reference, here’s the library settings

What language do you have set on your library? Also see certification is set to Japan but that shouldn’t effect translations…

Language is set to English.

What I really don’t get is that episode title and description, series description etc is all in english. It’s just the season name that is in japanese.

Just switched one of my anime shows Dragon Ball Super to use tvdb episode order and the season titles changed to Japanese. So looks like a bug to me.

Will run some more tests tomorrow to see if I can pin it down.

Change the certification country to United States. That will change your posters to English

Then untick “use season titles”

Refresh metadata

But I want the season titles. The translated ones. I don’t care for which posters are used.

Season titles are not localized yet. They are always fetched in the original language.
Issue is known, but work for fixing the situation hasn’t been scheduled yet.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks, didn’t realise that.

I’d like to bump this post as I have had this issue ever since presenting season titles was an option.
I have many anime, and most if not all of them display the Japanese titles for the seasons, yet everything else is in English. I have tried everything suggested in here already and a number of other things but at this point I have to assume it’s a bug.

At first i thought it was an auth issue. English does not appear until you log into a tvdb account. But if were an auth issue I would assume the episode titles would be affected as well. Would really like to see this resolved at some point. It’s a minor thing, not deal breaking just an Aesthetic that I would like rectified.

Is there any window on when this might be fixed?

Sorry, I’m not able to know.

Okay, thanks. At the very least, I assume this has been reported and will eventually be implemented? Or does a more specific ticket/post need to get published?

No need. It is recorded in the internal bug tracker.
