While updating libraries i notice a little flag saying to update the agent to use Plex TV Series agent, when i did so it caused absolute havoc on my library, splitting tv shows and merging stuff together that did not belong together e.g Doctor Who Original series was merged into Doctor Who (2005) - took ages to sort stuff out had to switch back to the TVDB agent - be careful when using the Plex agent.
That’s a rather vague warning (no offense).
Did you use the option to update the library or did you manually switch the library’s agent? Updating libraries seems to have been working rather smoothly based on what I’m seeing here in the forum.
I used the manual switch using the drop down list when editing the library. Sorry for not noting that in post. I fixed it by deleting the library then re-adding the library using the tvdb agent correctly which fixed the duplicate tv shows and the example i included in post i.e Doctor who original and Doctor who (2005)
If there are issues like these after the agent change, it is very likely caused by naming issues indeed.
Whereas the older agents let you get away with non-conforming namings, the new one is more strict.
The Dr. Who issue is almost a classic. You can find several dozen old threads in these forums which deal with it.
It all comes down to proper naming – particularly adding the release year to the folder name of the show and using the proper SnnEnn season/episode marker in the episode file name. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
no all names for tv shows are correct naming conventions e.g. S01E01 and the containing folder holds the date e.g. Doctor Who (2005)/Season 1/S01E01.mkv. But after the update to new agent it moved the classic series season one (season one only mind) into the Dr Who (2005) in the library.
No matter now as it was fixed switching back to use tvdb agent.
I use Media Companion to rename files to correct naming conventions, so may have been something it didn’t like about using that.
