Don’t get me wrong, the UI is really nice, but it’s really slow. The button-to-UI response is super delayed, and the video processing is slow, as is the metadata. Don’t get me wrong, the UI is really nice, but not fast enough like the last one.
I can only speculate what KillzoneHome is talking about, but for me, my Shield TV (Android TV) client just updated to the new UI today (the newest revision, with the restored left-side menu). I would echo what KillzoneHome said. Elements of the new UI do look nice, but performance is bad across the board. Really delayed menu inputs, scrolling episodes within a show is much slower, episode metadata takes a while to pop in, etc. Maybe it’s the case that some background metadata processes need to run, but regardless, a really bracing first impression. I do have a large library (8k movies, 70k TV episodes) but also the Shield TV is among the most performant set-top boxes that exists and the previous client didn’t have any performance issues.
