Plex unable to connect to Sinology server

Server Version#: DSM 7.0.1-42218 update 7
Player Version#: 1.109.0.329+
I did a long overdue update to my server and have the latest Plex server running. I checked permissions under system internal user and set PlexMediaServer to read/write. I think I’ve done everything I need. But no players, not even a Plex player on my local network, can access the shared media. Any advice?

Did you add those shared folders to any libraries in Plex and does their content show up after scanning these libraries?

I’m not sure. How do I add shared folders to libraries in Plex? I know I’ve done this before, but it was years ago. I scan my libraries after adding new content to them, but that is only when Plex player can access those libraries.

If you want those shares to be added to existing libraries:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289266-editing-libraries/

If they should be reflected in new libraries altogether:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288926-creating-libraries/

That doesn’t seem to be it. Plex player can’t reach the server even though the server is running and permissions are set up. Could it have something to do with the secure certificate?

Permissions and your client’s connection to the server aren’t related.

Key question is if you can access your server using the web app (either https://app.plex.tv/desktop or http://[Syno local IP address]:32400/web). Is the media you’re missing visible there?

No, it wasn’t. However, that led me to the “Why can’t the Plex app find or connect to my Plex Media Server?” article which mostly solved the problem, except for one concern…

I’ve a few libraries, but my music library is the one I actively use. I’ve put ratings on songs, have playlists defined, and other such stuff done inside Plex. So when I connected Plex to that library on the server I used a slightly different name for it on Plex. This new copy of the music library appeared beside the old one, which still cannot connect to the server. Looking in the new one, I see that the ratings have disappeared from the songs.

So this method will get the collection back, but not all the info stored by Plex in relation to the previous connection to the collection. And I want that info. Does that make sense?

I guess the real question is: if I connect this library to Plex using the same name as the old connection, I know it will remove the old connection from my list. But will Plex know to apply all the same ratings and playlists to the content? If yes then great. If not then have I lost my connection to all that ratings data stored in Plex?

What did you update? Did you go from DSM 6 to DSM 7?

NAS model?

“latest” is not helpful.

Exactly which version of PMS is installed?

Set permissions for what?

Did you alter permissions for the /PlexMediaServer shared folder?

Server Version#: DSM 7.0.1-42218 update 7
Player Version#: 1.109.0.329
Permissions for what? I dunno. After I updated Plex Media Server I got a pop up to check those settings, and the libraries did need for PlexMediaServer to have r/w permissions. The /PlexMediaServer shared folder had system internal user permission for r/w, but under local users “plex” had no access, so I set that to r/w, for what that’s worth.

Let’s try again. Please answer all the questions.

NAS model?

Which version of Plex Media Server is currently installed?

Did you update from DSM 6 to DSM 7 as part of the “long overdue update”?

If yes: Does the /Plex shared folder still exist?

If yes: Are the database files still present in /Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases?

NAS is an Iosafe 214. Plex server is 1.41.5.9626-7009626. DSM 7 is installed. There is a Plex folder along with a PlexMediaServer folder. There are 10 files present in the Databases folder.

Question: Did you update from DSM 6 to DSM 7 as part of the “long overdue update”?

Question: Are the 10 database files in /Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases? I’m specifically asking about /Plex, not /PlexMediaServer.

Why I am asking:

It seems like you recently updated from DSM 6 to DSM 7, and the update broke Plex Media Server on the NAS.

If this is the case, then your Plex server is still present in the /Plex folder. It can still be recovered.

However, if you did not update from DSM 6 to DSM 7, then something else is happening and the recovery steps will be different.

NAS is an Iosafe 214. Plex server is 1.41.5.9626-7009626. DSM 7 is installed. There is a Plex folder along with a PlexMediaServer folder. There are 10 files present in the Databases folder.

Does this file exist ?

    Plex Media Server/
      Preferences.xml

@mlibrik

You should have DSM 7.1.1 installed, NOT DSM 7.0.1.

Download the update file from the Synology download center here: Synology Inc.

You will not be able to update beyond 7.1.1 update X as the iosafe 214 is EOL (end of life).

Thanks everyone, I got it fixed
