Plex Unreachable Externally

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Versions#: 4.43.1/4.44.2 (Plex Web over Chrome) — 8.7.2.20952 (Plex for Android)

Hello,

I’ve had some issues with shared users accessing media outside the network- as well as my own devices accessing media when not connected to my network.

I have a:
Synology 1019+ → Netgear R7000 (Router mode for VPN etc) → Comcast Modem.

I am forwarding the same port through both network devices and uPnP is enabled/tracking my box over the usual ports Plex hops through. I have users who can only connect 50-60% of the time, and others who can’t connect at all.

I disconnected my phone from my network and attempted to connect with the same error above and pulled the logs. There were also at least one connection in the past 6-7 hours that resolved unreachable by an external share.

Remote access in the dashboard shows fully accessible from my manually specified port. When it is set to randomly grab a port, it does not work at all for any of my shares.

Any help would be appreciated.

Plex Media Server.1.log (10.0 MB) Plex Media Server.2.log (10.0 MB)

I need the full set of logs please. Those two don’t show what I need.
Further, since you’re referring to Remote Access, I will need the logs , captured 2 minutes after restart.

I say all this in light of a recent incident which easily could have caught you too.

Certificates and Remote Access got messed up (all remote access requires certificates). Without valid certs, connections won’t work.

That said, suggest you download and install 1.20.3 (Plex Pass) which does contain the self-mitigating changes for this problem .

Alright here’s the logs 2 minutes after I restarted my NAS/Plex. I just got the notification for updates a day or so ago. When I try and install the update I get a DSM error. I’ll have to look into that separately to get the current version up and going.

Thanks for the help.

Your server is showing that its IP 172.16.0.11 is behind another router.

Oct 15, 2020 13:36:50.855 [0x7f78a5cc3700] DEBUG - PublicAddressManager: got WAN IP 10.0.0.234 from router
Oct 15, 2020 13:36:50.855 [0x7f78a5cc3700] WARN - PublicAddressManager: WAN IP is a private IP address

This is “Double NAT” and cannot be reached.

I’m an idiot lol. I completely overlooked my topology.

I got the double NAT sorted out and pushed my public VPN subscription to the synology box since I’m not using the 1st hop anymore.

Thanks again dude!
