I have some 4K MP4 and MKV video files on my laptop. I’ve tried using Airplay and other programs to upload the hoke 4K video files to VLC player and others. If I rent a Plex server Will I be able to play 4K video files on an external hard drive to my Plex server and maintain the 4K quality, as my upload speed is only 10mbps or so. Can I somehow set the resolution to 4K, then upload it to my server to stream back in 4K or can I if it all relies. On my upload speed, can I simply pause the play back to let playback buffer so until I have enough to play back in 4K? Is there a way to use Plex to view these video files in 4K resolution?
10MB up is not going to work for 4k remote streaming.
As has already been stated, 10Mbit is not enough upload speed for 4K. A Typical 4K Remux averages around 70Mbit and can burst well above 100Mbit from time to time.
There’s always a way… You could essentially do 1 of 2 things in your current situation.
- Transcode the movie(s) to a bitrate below 10mbit (Your quality will suffer greatly)
- Get better internet upload speed, to the tune of 200Mbit upload or greater.
