Plex Version 1.13.3.5223 shows 2 movies for one file

When I add a movie to a sub directory, ie f:\videos\Superman\filename, plex reads the new file and shows that there are two movies of the same name in my movie category on the plex GUI. This just stated happening since the latest upgrade. Version 1.13.3.5223.

Inspect the Plex media info and see which filenames it considers to be the same movie.

It often has to do with improper file names.

Please give some more details about the actual file and folder names used.

Manderlay.mp4

TAU.mp4

Redemption.mp4

Death Wish.mp4

And many others.

These files are in a subdirectories that has been working with other files. The previously recorded movies, before latest plex download, still show up correctly, one file name equals one movie. The two files, with the exact same name and file location, show up as a “2” in the top left corner of the movie poster and two separate files in the “get info” pull down.

This has just started since I downloaded the new Plex version 1.13.3.5223. I have been using Plex for many years and this just started happening.

So I can see that your file names are missing the release years.
You’ll have to help Plex a bit. There were at least 8 movies titled ‘Death Wish’
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381023-naming-movie-files/

Which 2 filenames were listed under the poster with the 2?

Did you move your Plex data folder to a different drive?

I only have one DeathWish.mp4 on my 8tb F:\ drive and I do have release years on files that have duplicate names. As I said, I have been using Plex for many years and know you can’t have two files with the same name or plex doesn’t know the difference.

The same name and file location shows up in the “get info” section.

Could you please inspect the properties of your movie library?
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289266-editing-libraries/
On the ‘Add Folders’ tab, are there any duplicate or overlapping folders listed?

I was also having this problem, but found the cause. Make sure you are not doing 2 scans at one time.

I had Sonarr and Radarr starting a scan from their connections tab but also had Plex set to “Scan my library automatically” this would cause 2 scans at the same time and have the files added twice. Turn off one or the other and it should stop.

Checked movie library, which hasn’t changed in the last 6 months, and found no duplicate files or file folders. Not sure what you mean by overlapping folders, but like I said, the structure nor additional file folders have been added to the movie library, just new .mp4 files to existing folders.

Do you have two users on your system? Is this how you can get 2 scans at one time? I’m the only user on my system. Is there some setting that I have set that could cause 2 scans to happen when I download my movie file?

Should I stop the plex server or scans when I download/record the file until it is finished downloading or recording to the drive? I haven’t tried that yet but is seems like the plex server starts scanning and analyzing the movie file before the download/record is complete. I haven’t had to stop the server or turn off scans up until now, but since the last plex upgrade l guess anything is possible.

Not two users, but three pieces of software that can start a scan, Plex with the auto setting and Sonarr & Radarr with the connect setting set. Make sure you only have one or the other set if you are running any downloader software.
