Plex version higher than Synology allows

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1552-838d0c785
Player Version#: 1.16.5.1554

Hey guys,

I’m desperate. Got new router, so all Portstuff whatsoever was gone and I wanted to bring all the nice stuff back as the Plex Server stopped working immediately.

While doing that I decided to make that update that Plex wants from me all the time when logging into my player. I did it, v1.18, then I did a manual update on the Server (Ive got a DS918+). Then I found out, that the installed version is higher than Synology tells me. I am not even sure if this is the problem, but I did something and the Server disappeared. I cannot reach it at all.

I can reach the data though from DSM and everything, just the Server in the Plex player is gone like a red warning symbol telling me its not available.

Any ideas?

p.s. it doesnt matter if I install different versions on my win pc, shame also that I just cant find the specific version synology has in their shop. i can find 16.5.1554 an .1488 but not that specific one…

The Synology Package Store is several versions behind for Plex Server updates.

So from the Synology side, Synology is just reporting that the latest version in the Package store is 1.16.5, AND you currently have version 1.18.4 installed

Now the red warning you receive in the Plex Server/Player is a separate issue. Can you post images of the server error you received?

Hey, thanks so much for answering so quickly! I am sorry that I cant describe my problem in a more exact way, but I really have no idea whtas going on. Now everything is red, even my laptop (that AW51 thing), whatever, I dondt want my laptop do be there anyway…

Here the pictures.

So it doesnt really matter if the versions are exactly the same? I can install 1.18 on my laptop and also as manual installation on the nas?

Edit: oh yeah I forgot: before it turned red it was yellow, saying “indirect”…

Edit2: Got my laptop green again after I installed the latest Updates. So both guys - the Player and the Server are running 1.18 now.

FYI, Drobo 5N2 also doesn’t recognize latest PLEX version. Yesterday I was able to install 1.18.4.2… using PuTTY on a Windows 10 machine. PLEX media server installed on the Drobo 5N2. PLEX media server had been bugging me to upgrade for some time. Directly downloaded the plex.tgz file from the Drobo share on the PLEX update web site onto the DroboApps share on the Drobo. Today the Drobo Dashboard software is telling me I that I need to ‘update’ to an older version of the PLEX media server (1.15.6.1…). Unless I run into problems or someone here can tell me that I need to downgrade my software I’m going to continue to run with the updated PLEX Media Server and wait for the Drobo Dashboard to catch up. Thanks.

Thanks for participating. I do not know whats that Putty and 5n2 and Drobo, but I assume what were talking about here is the fact, that version 1.18 is having troubles with some devices - for you Drobo, for me a Synology Disk Station?

Alright, just in case anybody will ever have the same problem: I could solve it by reinstalling older, identical versions of Plex, deleting Plex completely including all folder etc. and reinstalling it - on the laptop as on the Server.
