Plex VR for Oculus Quest

Just received a Quest for my birthday. Was bummed to realize that Plex wasn’t supported. I thought it was then realized that was for the Go.

I have found a workaround though. Turn on the Plex DLNA server and purchase Skybox VR. It’s an amazing experience.

Still, would love a native Plex client that makes me feel like I’m in the movies.

Just adding to the requests to keep this going.
At very least, make the app that was written for the Oculus Go (which worked pretty well) available for the Quest.
While new development would be nice, just making the old one available would be a great step forward.

It would be very nice to see this app optimized for more headsets, the “Go” is now officially discontinued and the Quest 2 is making storm towards a new generation of VR. We’re seeing a rise in users and this is the perfect chance for this Plex VR app to really make the headlines for at home media entertainment. Come on PLEX - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! YOU ALREADY HAVE THE APP!

With the release (well, pre-release) of the Quest 2 this really needs to be reconsidered. It sounds like 2 million units are expected to be sold before 2021.

Yes, it can be accessed via other apps via DLNA, but that’s a sub-par Plex experience.

Agreed. My family are avid plex users and just ordered a pair of Quest 2s. The current plex VR app is OK on the GO, but could really use some work to bring it up to 2020/21 standards. Fingers crossed.

Hey Plex team, if you read posts from your peeps, we want a Quest App. As a lifetime member I used Plex VR often on my Oculus Go. I travel for work and this is the best platform for accessing my content on a big screen on the road. I just recently purchased a Quest 2 and am frustrated to see that for whatever reason, Plex has decided to stop supporting VR. Quest 2’s just released and now retailers including Oculus are pushing out delivery dates due to demand - I think you are missing the boat. Despite being a lifetime member, I’d pay a premium for this - monetize the app if you must to recoup development costs! If nothing else, at least keep the Go version viable.

We do read the posts. I’m sorry as already stated in the closed Features Suggestion topic linked above we have no plans to make one. If something changes on that front I will post something about it.

While a new or upgraded app would be a good thing, in its absence how about just making the existing Oculus GO app available to Quest users? That shouldn’t take a lot of work.

That was a year ago, and with Quest 2 out and everyone getting into VR, is there any consideration at all on these? We have so many people requesting and this is definitely the way forward. Even a simple client just to watch the videos in 3D would be good. Add in a virtual cinema so friends can join and it’s done. Doesn’t need to be 100% high quality or filled with tons of features when it’s in beta. Just Basic functionality. Is it because the money is not in VR but in other places? Because the money is definitely good when you can see other apps getting lots of sales especially during this covid period. Sell each app as $5 and heck even I will pay for it. Too much focus on other places currently that a lot of people don’t need/want (just see reddit and forums reviews)

Any plans for Plex VR on Oculus Quest and Steam VR? Would be great to use it without using my old phone.

Yea, I’m a life time member too and wouldn’t mind paying an extra fee for Plex VR app. I get there may be additional development cost and an extra fee would be well worthwhile. Just call it an “Enhanced Lifetime Membership” with VR support. I would think that even if only 200,000 ppl paid an extra $5, the profits would more than cover what ever costs are incured to mod the GO app to work on the quest 2 (with some minor tweaks). But hey, what do I know.

I am not a lifetime member yet and, while I’m considering buying a lifetime subscription, the experiences I had with VR and Shield TV move me further from Plex every day.

Yep, same here. I have a HP G2 coming and just got the Quest 2 after using a Quest for over a year. I would pay that app or “enhanced” fee as well. I have a large library of 3D and hard to find digitally movies, I would love to watch them with the full Plex experience.

Just a suggestion, to give the community a chance to put its money where its collective mouth is.

Start an Indiegogo campaign. I offer to help. Set a deadline for contributions; if you don’t get what you need for development, no harm no foul.

Offer those who contribute free access to the app, the rest will buy it through the Oculus store.

Me and my three mates routinely use Plex and have all recently bought the quest 2 but found we are unable to watch Plex as we thought we could. Please bring Plex in to future or give the people what they want. I will happily pay for this app development.

Due to there being no plex vr for the quest, I ended up paying 15 bucks for the Skybox app and it’s not half the app that the original Plex for VR on the Go was. Would have much rather given that money for official Plex app support.

I too am a Quest 2 owner and would dearly love to move plex vr from my gear vr to the superior screen of the Quest 2. Plex is the best media organizer hands down and while I can easily put Plex on the Quest 2, I cannot get the Plex VR version to run. I too would not be bothered by paying for the app in the Oculus store and I am a Plex Pass subscriber.

I would pay for this also.
Quest, Quest 2 and soon to be HP Reverb G2 owner here.

I have the Plex Andoid APK installed on my Quest.
We need Plex VR.

Having Just got a Quest 2 and expecting Plex to be available as I have seen the Plex VR on you tube etc, and disappointed to see there isn’t a native App. You can view through Plex.tv via the browser, but you don’t get the full VR experience.

I would pay for this App to get a better viewing experience.

+1 from me
