I also would like Plex for Oculus. In this socially distancing time it’s a perfect way to enjoy something with others in VR. It worked very well on the Oculus Go, if you really don’t want to spend developer time on it just change the settings and submit the same app to the Oculus Store for Quest, and we’ll be satisfied.
I would love to have Plex on Oculus Quest (2). I know Bigscreen supports DLNA/Plex, but that is not a good experience for Plex.
I’ll join in with the request. I just got the Quest 2 and was disappointed to find Plex VR was only on Go.
I am a Plex Pass member and would very much appreciate this!
Why not - I too would like a plex app for the oculus quest 2! I think this new headset is going to massively popularise VR and given the recent rise in importance of in-home entertainment, this is an area truly worthy of development time.
+1 for Plex VR on Oculus Quest 2.
I hope Plex is listening. Huge popularity for this new device, I hope they don’t miss the boat.
I’ve bee using Virtual Desktop and running the Plex Media server on a PC. Would be nice to have a native Plex on Oculus Quest.
I like this idea.
plex vr app for oculus quest 2, come on! will’ya?
Add Oculus Quest functionality please. There’s no reason it should be available for the Go and not the Quest. The app is already on the Oculus Store…
100% +1
I think with all of the people here ask/begging for even just the straight forward availability of the existing app. Some more explanation of why there are no plans would be in justified. If it is the money, figure out how much it will take(you should have some idea if money is the reason for not doing it) and give us the opportunity to see if there is enough demand to pay for it. Or, find a couple of developers who are willing to do it and let them build one, even if it is not an “official” app, you could at least not sue them for building it and (hopefully) give them access to whatever apis they would need to make a good experience.
The VR market is growing fast, and at $300 the Quest 2 is going to make it grow even faster. I think we deserve a better explanation of the why.
Count me in, willing to pay for a working Plex VR app for the Quest 2
A simple explination as to “WHY” there is no consideration being given to the VR platform would be helpful. The simple explaination of. “because we said so” is not really a becomming communication strategy from such a reputable brand.
+1 Also …
Another vote for this!
+1 for el56’s suggestions:
-
Start an indiegogo campaign to fund the development of native VR support / quest2
-
Otherwise, at least update the Go app to make it available for Quest users.
I would be willing to pay for a Plex VR app even as a lifetime member.
hey guys.
i came here in a roundabout way, after discovering the limitations of DLNA streaming from Plex to BigscreenVR on my Quest 2.
it streams to one headset just fine. streaming to multiple devices doesn’t work at all. it requires the desktop server, and (using wifi for everything) the quality is severely limited. i plan on hooking up my laptop with an ethernet cable, and a proper desktop would probably help also. the audio also has trouble syncing this way, as it depends on the audio going out in a separate stream basically, like playing through a pair of speakers. (instead of streaming them together in like it would on a DLNA connection)
as of right now the video quality can probably be fixed with a better server, but the audio sync problem is an issue with ALL wireless speaker setups on the quest (like playing games with a bluetooth headset).
AFAIK, the plex app for wired VR sets doesn’t have these limitations, and the technology there might not even be useful for programming a wireless version of the app.
as a side note, i believe streaming asynchronously through DLNA is already possible. but that doesn’t interest me, might as well just watch it alone. i found all this out as i tried watching a movie with my daughter last night, thinking we were all ready to go
TL;DR stop saying “they already have the app it should be easy”. they don’t, and it might not be.
came here cause i just got a Quest 2, and saw that the plex app is not supported.
What the heck? This thing has blown up, i know half my friends have already purchased one, and its going to keep growing. Please port it, or at least open it up to SteamVR!
I really think plex people aught to read the comments on the latest Ars Technica article for this new “Arcade” paid subscription. Not sure how many actually wanted, or will use what can easily be gotten for FREE through emulators, or retention on adults playing some nostalgic game for 5 minutes and then getting board.
Come on PLEX, focus on what it was that made you great and loved - consuming media from personal servers on multiple devices in a seamless hassle free way.
I just can not fathom the decision making proccess there… “What should we do, create the next gen streaming app for the exploding VR market, or reinvent a gaming emulator for games that were only boarderline good even when they were state of the art (back in the 80s!) and can be had for free already elsewhere and no one really wants?”.
Some great thinking there Lou.
