Server Version#: 1.13.5.5332
Web Client Version: 3.67.1
I recently had all player options under the drop-down in the web client disappear. Only the "Cast’ option remains. I have a Windows 10 HTPC running Plex Media Player and a Roku Ultra which can play media from my Plex server. The only thing that has stopped working is they no longer show up under the “Select Player” drop-down in the servers web client. So, I cannot remotely control them via the web client. The HTPC and Roku show up and work as usual in the Android app. Restarted everything and believe I have the latest versions of everything. It was all working before last server update.
Nothing? No one has seen this before? I just stood up a new Plex server and run both the Plex Media Player, OpenPHT, and a Roku Ultra. Still, all players are missing from the menu aft my using this feature daily for the past few years.
This feature will only work in the web app if the following conditions are met:
all involved Plex clients must be in the same local network segment
there is a Plex server running in the local network segment. (It doesn’t need to be the server from which the content is played. It just needs to be present.)
If you are running the web app on Windows, make sure the network connection hasn’t been classified by Windows as ‘Public’. It must be ‘Private’.
Make sure there is no web browser add-on interfering with the web app. Often “privacy” add-ons or ad blockers or VPN clients cause disruption.
I had this happen as well, and it started working as before when I used the local path to the Plex server in the web browser (ie http://[ip-address/computer-name]:[port]) instead of the remote path (https://app.plex.tv).
I’m not sure if it’s supposed to work over the remote path as well, and I’m not even sure if that was the way I used it before or if I just went about it a different way after reinstalling by browser/bookmarks.
If it worked using the remote path before, it’s 99% likely a network or firewall issue along the way, but please try the local path to see if that works for you as it did for me.
BagronkeN, connecting directly on my local LAN was a great idea I had not even thought about that. It would still not acknowledge devices to push media to.
OttoKerner, these items you mentioned I have now looked into. No browser add-ons and same behavior despite Chrome or IE usage. Windows network is Private or Domain as I run a windows domain internally. All servers (2) and players (3) are on the same internal network via a single subnet. I have found that a newer version of Plex introduced a behavior which tries to detect whether the server is public or local via the IP. Unfortunately, it appears that feature may be a bit to simple and flags custom subnets as public. I am looking into this as all my servers have now started showing up as “Remote” after loading the latest server version in addition to the issue of this post.
I have an Asustor AS3102T (with Hdmi for media playing). I store my media files on this NAS and I used this and the Plex to view my files through Hdmi. But a few days ago the NAS was missed from the player list on my Plex page and from plex app on my phone too. Now i can’t play my media files through Hdmi. I checked on my NAS the Asustor Portal app, and there is no more Plex icon. I reinstalled the Plex Media Server but the issue is not solved. What happend? My network was not changed. The plex can read my NAS becouse I can view the media files on Plex page. Just the player list is empty and plex icon missed in Asustor Portal.
You can only fling media to other Plex clients.
Your Asustor may have a Plex server, but there is no official Plex client that runs on Asustor NAS devices.
Speculation:
Perhaps Asustor previously bundled an unofficially adapted version of Plex Home Theater with your device. Which they have now disabled, because Plex Home Theater is no longer maintained since several years.
I think it should working. Here is the offical link: ASUSTOR Portal | ASUSTOR NAS
You can watch the Plex icon on images. And as I wrote this worked for me (and many more peoples) more than half year. I installed the asustor apps always from App Central. The Plex Media Server too. Only the two last updates installed manually. But these works with Asustor Portal too.
There is an openPht app… Is the problem maybe with this?
Sorry for my poor english.
As I understand it, this ‘ASUStor Portal’ is an app that is developed by Asus.
I don’t know much more about these NAS devices.
All I can say is: ask Asus what happened to the Plex app.
You can look to this link for resolution details. This issue was resolve. Plex does not allow similar posts to multiple threads so I could not paste the details here.
