Hey guys, just wondering why setting remote stream bitrate was removed from the option on the web client? that makes no sense what so ever.
i understand that you can limit remote streams from the server config but that seems counter intuitive.
for example i used to be able to set remote stream quality to 2 mbps 720 on my laptop, and 8 mbps 1080 on my TV, and they would just automatically play whatever video at that set rate.
now it appears the only way to control remote bitrate is to limit it on the server settings, which cripples other devices i use that have access to faster connections (home vs work for example), or change the quality each time a video loads which is a pain. Otherwise it converts to max (even if that means upscale)
yes i see that, however that only controls bitrate for online videos, not remote streaming from the server.
all the tests i have done indicate the only way to control remote streaming is by setting a rate limit globally in the server settings, everything else controls bitrate for online content like the news and podcast stuff
It indeed controls remote streaming.
You might have to uncheck above ‘Automatically adjust quality (Beta)’ to make it effective for remote Plex server access.
Below that is a second checkbox ‘Use recommended settings’, which you also have to disable to get a quality selector for local plex server playback.
hey thanks for the response, however it doesnt seem to be working for me.
example, with video quality set to 2 mbps 720p, watching a show that is 1080p shows as converting (maximum 1080p 1.5 mbps) when i go to settings to check while playing the video.
Did you ‘Stop’ playback inbetween your tries and while adjusting the preferences?
Because if you just ‘Pause’, it technically stays the same playback task for which the changed preferences don’t apply.
