Plex Web Flinging/Casting Broken

Server Version#: 1.32.0.6918
Player Version#: NA

Noticed a few weeks ago that the Plex Web interfaces flinging/casting no longer works, if you select a device from the dropdown list it doesn’t connect or produce any on screen error, devices are also missing from the list, if I open the plex android app and try this there it works fine and can see other devices that aren’t listed in plex web.

Running the latest version ( Version 1.32.0.6918) inside a container, nothing has changed configuration wise all still the same as when it was working a few weeks/months ago, but has been broken for the last 2 updates I’ve installed.

Also tried this via other devices to rule out my pc/laptop but also the same, also tried plex app on windows.

Logged out and back in multiple times, tried clearing cookies etc too

I should mention I’m accessing the server via a local address so no HTTPS but it’s also the same even when going via a supposed secure connection via app.plex.tv

Going back to Version 1.30.2.6563 fixes it, I can cast/fling again, but all devices still don’t show up, for example on android app I can see my Sony Bravia Android TV, but on Plex web that device is not there.

Tried looking through the log the only thing I can find is this from when I try and connect to a device to fling to

Hi.
I’m detected the same issue with plex web version 4.100.1 ( 1.32.0.6918).
The remote control is broken in plex web independent from the player/client.

Is there any process to fix this issue known?

Where can I insert a bug/issue directly to the plex developers?

I think the bug was indroduced with 1.31.1.6716 - “(Web) Updated to 4.100.1”

Going back to a 1.30 server version fixed it for me

Don’t suppose you have a link to current bugs etc or anything that matches up to this, or somewhere to report the bug if not already known, there’s also another thread with a similar/same issue Plex web cannot control or cast to headless plexamp - #6 by pjv

Yep, i bet it’s related to that one, and I think this one and this one too.

No doubt there will be more soon enough.

Thankfully it works again for me by going back versions, it appears it’s to do with the api which is maybe the reason I’m not seeing a error in the plex server log.

Thanks for the links too, the more info and similar cases the better.

You’re welcome.
Yep, I noticed the failure directly using the API. Reading from the server like http://10.0.1.3:32400/status/sessions works fine, but API endpoints like http://10.0.1.3:32400/player/playback/seekTo where a controlling command is sent to a client is no longer functional. Like you, I get no errors in the log when the command fails.

Would be good if someone from plex could pop in here and acknowledge this is a known issue and will be fixed at some point.

Make plex web great again.

Clearly nobody cares at this point, you’ve tagged someone I’ve tagged someone, even just some acknowledgement seems too much to ask I guess.

I have the same issue, casting doesn’t work from the plex desktop app but plexamp casts fine.

Anywhere we can see this at all?

Thanks for looking anyway and creating it, much appreciated

Sorry we don’t have a public tracker

Ye I’d searched round but found nothing really, only change logs.

Just to confirm, it is a recognised bug? involves the api, that was highlighted in another thread linked in this one?

I can only tell you that I could reproduce in that I could not use Plex Companion from Web (or desktop which uses the web interface) to fling/control any of our apps

To be clear I can cast just fine to a chromecast but that is a totally different protocol handled by browser
