Server Version#:3.104.2
Player Version#:Chrome 4.10.1?
I’m half asleep so I apologize is this is not as informative as it should be. My server is on Windows 10, on an i7 6700K. Plex had been working tonight, on Plex-web, via Chrome, until a movie was (intentionally) stopped part way through. Since then, any attempt to play anything, via 4 different Windows 10 PC’s, including the server itself, through Plex-web has crashed the server. Audio files work fine. Using Plex Media Player on Windows 10 also works fine.
I’ve got to go to sleep, so I will check this tomorrow, but I thought I would at least raise the issue in case it’s not just on my end.
Well, it’s still doing it. All the systems have been power cycled multiple times, and it hasn’t changed anything. I can still access the server fine with Plex Media Player for Windows, and my Android app can access it. But, Plex-web via both Chrome and Microsoft Edge crashes the server software.
Thanks for the response Nibbles. When I’m at home, I’ll give Firefox a try. When I attempt to run any video via Chrome or Microsoft Edge, Plex will act like it’s buffering. I haven’t left it to time out, after 30 seconds or a minute, I have stopped playback, and Plex indicates that contact with the server has been lost. On the server computer, Plex Server shows up in the system tray still, but if you hover the mouse over it, it disappears - so it is the software crashing, not the computer itself. I have tested this several times - pretty much the moment Plex attempts playback, the server software has crashed.
I’m not at home to play with it at the moment, but are there specific logs I should be looking at and posting here?
Ok so the disappearing system tray icon is a good indication it crashed like you said. Plex stores the Log Files in several places. The article explains where to find the ones for server and the one for the web app. I usually
enable debug but not verbose logging on the server and player, then save.
restart the PMS computer, get back to a desktop with PMS running.
wait 6 min for PMS to initialize and do internal housekeeping.
express the failure.
wait 30sec.
restart PMS so you can use Settings - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
I just very quickly did some of what you suggested as I’m on my way to bed. I can confirm that Plex-web does crash the server when done through FireFox too. I’m not sure that I gave the server 6 minutes, but I’m attaching the server logs. I’ll try to get everything you asked for tomorrow.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-11-05_00-25-27.zip (4.0 MB)
I am having the same issue on my win 10 box. If anyone tries to play a video, tv show or movie, PMS crashes immediately. Everything works fine when playing inside the home network. This does not happen when playing through my unraid server. Any help is greatly appreciated. Plex Media Server Logs_2019-11-05_08-52-58.zip (1.3 MB)
Rolling back is great. Get to what works if it always did before.
I’ll try to get into your logs. If several people are getting this like I’m hearing, it will help if you keep abreast of this but not all that important that you try to solve it with us.
I’m now having this issue as well. Media fails to play, then when I check the Server, it has crashed/quit… I also have a smart TV which fails to play.
Most of my content is x265. I had one x264 stream appear to play correctly - I don’t have much x264 to test with though.
