I have noticed recently my Plex webb is not deleting media i have to manually check to allow file delition in plex webb and delete it from plex webb manually is there a way to fix this easily?
Plex will not automatically delete any media. You have to choose to delete it.
If you manually delete media directly from your computers file system, the deletion will not show up in Plex unless you also update that library in Plex or wait until the next scheduled library update.
You can also check the “Allow Media Deletion” box under Settings (for Server) > Library. But you have to make sure you hit the “Save” button at the bottom of the Settings screen to save any changes. Then, when you access a piece of media in each Plex player app, there will be a delete option (Plex Web lists this under the 3 dots). This option will delete it from Plex and your hard drive.
See How do I delete something from my Library? for a full explanation and instructions.
I understand what your saying but I think I didn’t explain properly the media I’m referring to is deleted from the file system but Plex webb does not delete it even after I refresh the library it does not delete it… it lists it as unavailable… but does not delete it
The only way I can get it to delete from Plex Webb is going into Library settings and allowing file deletion & deleting from Plex Webb by hand
is there a way to fix this? short of deleting & re adding the entire library?
After you update the library be sure to empty trash and clean bundles. Without that the deletion is not really finished as Plex thinks the media “might” reappear as it could be from a temporarily unavailable drive.
just tried what you recommended… update library … clean bundles empty trash update library. Plex Webb still shows it as there even though the media is long gone.
Ok well I just deleted the entire library from Plex Webb then re added the library and it’s working again
Not sure why that was necessary but it worked… Thanks all
