Plex Web with custom domain is on outdated Plex Web version

Server Version#: 1.20.2.3402
Player Version#: 4.34.4, which should be 4.43.1

Hey guys,

I’ve set up a custom domain with SSL certificate for my plex server and today I found out that Plex Web is on an outdated version then. E.g., if I access app.plex.tv it shows the latest version available for Plex Web (4.43.1), but when I access is via my custom domain (e.g. https://www.mydomain.com:32400) it’s showing a way older Plex Web version (4.34.4).

Why is that and how can I have a custom domain and still have access to the latest Plex Web application?

Kind regards y’all Plexarians

The embedded version of the web client is always several versions behind the one hosted at app.plex.tv. If you want to use the most recent web client, you must access it via app.plex.tv; your custom domain is just accessing the server’s embedded version.

As to the why, Plex likely just wants to ensure a version has been in the wild for some time before it’s baked in to the server release.

Oh! That makes sense. Thank you for the information! I’ll stick to the embedded versions and my custom domain then
