Plex Web Wont Play Recorded TV - But Everything else will

So I`m running a Local plex server on a local Windows Server 2019 box and a HD Homerun to record TV. I can record shows and movies just fine. Those shows and movies will play back perfectly fine on my Android Phone and my Xbox one - however when I log into plex.tv on my browser, I cannot play back recorded TV.

When I try and play back recorded TV on a browser session, I get the splash screen / artwork for the recorded programme, a spinning wheel - and nothing happens.

I get the same results on Google Chrome and (chromium) Edge.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot?

Check the Dashboard details - you’ll see it’s transcoding. <—or trying to.

If I mouse over the title of the programme playing its showing me thumbnails of the steam being played - and the play time is incrementing as normal - however the playback screen is completley black

Just to be clear - are you suggesting that a workaround (use local player) is needed because playback of recorded TV via a browser session is not supported?

interlaced, live tv won’t Direct Play in my browser.
Everything I can throw at Plex Media Player Direct Plays.
Plex Media Player doesn’t run in a browser - it’s a dedicated Player app.

Not sure about your browser.
Maybe Microsoft Edge is Super-Duper Browser.

I do have a suggestion - try one of the dedicated Player apps - then you can start a bug report on that Plexweb bug wherein it won’t Direct Play everything.

Thats odd. Becuase I can play any other kind of video file (other than recorded TV) on a plex browser session.

I`m playing video from a browser session right now.

Some more testing has indicated this is Its bandwidth related / indirect connection related. Manually changing the stream quality allows playback.

I`ll raise questions around indirect connections if needed in a separate thread.
