Why is Search showing ads for movies I don’t have? I can’t remove this in the sidebar or online sources?
Welcome to the new world. Please enjoy your stay…
Please allow disabling this awful online search.
I want to search MY content!
The search option only shows “On This Device” and my server.
ZERO streaming services are selected with the new app version.
I swear, every new “feature” plex introduces is a problem, while actual problems are never fixed.
@Atomatth: As a side note, I changed my Movie library’s name to Films so there is consistency with the search results, however, I then found that the filter/category selector in the library still listed Movies as an option:

Correct. Your naming of the library has no bearing on the name of the filter/category. That area would be controlled by your language choice. Using Dansk language:

Yeah sorry - I should have been a bit more specific.
I have my language set to “English (UK)” which is presumably why I see Film in the search results rather than Movie.
As such, shouldn’t I see Films in the library filter/category dropdown rather than Movies ?
While I do occasionally want to search for other content, at least giving us the option to turn this off would be much appreciated. I don’t want to be confusing my users with a bunch of new sources they’re not familiar with. Seconding xen’s opinion: Why can’t I remove this?
That would be a translation issue, I saw the same. Translations are generally community driven so that specific string in that specific area was just missed.
@Nerdwiththehat This is being looked into. As always no ETA, sorry.

Ah of course. I did carry out some translations a couple of years ago but I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it.
I have just reviewed the use of movie in the plex-web and plex-for-smart-tvs-and-consoles projects - there was some use of Film but some translations were blank and some had been incorrectly translated to Movie so a bit of a mismatch - ironically some by me as well as I hadn’t realised at the time that Film was preferred ![]()
I even found show rather than programme (as I see that is now being used in the search results) and favorite rather than favourite so corrected those as well.
Not sure which thread is being followed on this search issue, so I’m posting this in both places:
Up until today, I was able to use 127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html on my PC hosting my PMS and had the old search. Now, it puts me to the new search. Any other workarounds?
I will voice support for what other people have said. If you have a large library, this new search makes it painful to find stuff. If I want to make sure I have a movie or show - for example Mobile Suit Gundam, which there are many series - then I would just search for Gundam and go to the Shows section of the search page to see which ones I had. Now, I get episode titles and movies mixed in there as well.
For the record, I don’t think anyone is saying not to have this new search for people who like it. Just have an option in settings to use the old one.

The embedded web client was updated in the most recent plex server update. There is no good workarounds outside of …
- downgrading to a previously version of the server which has an older client
- using the older (now defunct but still works fine) PMP build which has a really old web client embedded
Just popping in to +1 my dissatisfaction with the UX of the new search in the case of multiple versions of movies, even though they’re ‘split apart’. This is a major cause of cognitive strain. At a minimum, the different versions on the version select modal should show the customized titles of the different versions if we have them set.
Plex seems to have a knack for implementing really huge changes without asking for feedback first. The page-based search results from before were so much more usable! The experience of searching should feel light and invisible. Right now, it feels like work.
We need “knobs” to control what is actually searched. Personally I only want to see what’s in my collection. In addition to the slow online look-ups for web-based items display of the results is jerky, changes OTF, and is difficult to use.
Is the library where that is set in, set to Exclude from Home and Global Search in the library’s advanced settings? I’ve added this title and was not able to search due to the advanced setting. Once I set it back to Include in Home and Global Search the title was found. Please let me know and I’ll raise the issue.
There is also translation as a potential issue.
It was already on “Include in Home and Global Search”, but now for no clear reason to me, everything is back to normal and I can search in arabic. Thank you so much
I just discovered that I cannot search for a movie, press Enter and list the results.
Only showing the tiny dropdown list.
Is this the way it will be from now on?
If yes, I have to start making big money, buy Plex and fire every single person making these stupid decisions.
Have we lost the ability to have a civil discourse?
It sucks.
what version was the last to have a working search option?
so I can roll back and be able to use the interface again?
