Rolling back to 1.86.1 fixed it for me. No need to disable library scanning.
It’s too bad they can’t roll back to a plex web version that works until they can fix this issue… if only that was possible then they can take all the time in the world.
It’s still doing it for me on the Plex Web 4.123.2 that is bundled with my server.
Not as bad as it is with 4.124.1, but it’s still a problem.
Surely this should be an incident right? (and reflected on https://status.plex.tv/)

This is a fairly serious bug that effectively makes using desktop, or the web app unusable that seems to have no clear communication on what the exact cause is or a timeline for it’s fix. That’s not to mention, it’s hard to even find this thread (I would bet many many more affected who simply have no idea what’s happening).
Having this issue as well. Disabling library scans/updates is useless cause any background task can cause the issue still. I have plex running in the background pretty much 24/7 to listen to content and this is horrifically unusable. Been a lifetime user since 2016, this is the first major bug like this i’ve seen and I can barely find info on it.
Also jumping in to report that I’m also having this same issue with playback erroring out every few minutes both on my Windows app and the Web app since the latest update was released.
by any chance do you know where I can find the previous version of the play so i can install that?
Yes, that is apparently too hard when your company is devoted to cramming hundreds of unwanted linear ‘TV channels’ packed with ads down everyone’s throats. Linear distribution is dying fast and Plex decides now is a great time to reintroduce us to the equivalent of the buggy whip. Frankly, this is really unprofessional and signals how little Plex seems to care about anything else these days. Frankly, there are already a number of bigger industry players out there doing this much better and their “me-too” streaming fiasco has never interested anyone I know.
Fix for issue looks good . The current plan is to have this fix included in the next Web and Desktop releases. This should be early next week. Thank you all who reported and for all your patience.
Will it fix the issue with the windows app too?
same here, error always occurs during media playing if I upload something new to my server.
I use the windows client
Anyone else affected on the Ubuntu Snap app? Version 1.87.2.87-87488d5a and Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
This issue has been plaguing me for a few weeks now. Primary clients I’m affected on, are the Chrome player, as well as the Windows Desktop Player.
Went to this archive site and downloaded the latest 1.86 build, and this seems a little more stable. Although, I have to admit, it feels kinda weird to go to a 3rd party site to get older / archived versions.
Eagerly looking forward to a patch on this one. Interesting how this is marked as “solved” without actually being delivered to end-users. What’s your definition of “done”?
Any update on when the patch will be released?
I’m also having this same issue since around the last update. On both Chrome and the native MacOS app.
I’m eager for this fix. Thank you.
Release for Web is now out. See:
Desktop release should be up next out now.
It does seem fixed, thank you!
Cool! No more refresh problems.
