As the title describes, I am unable to cast from web and Android apps to my audio devices. My video casting (TV shows and movies to my two TV’s) works fine.
Specifically, I own a Cambridge Audio CXN-V2, and I want to cast my music library to it. I also have a Google Home Mini that’s not registering, but I don’t care so much about that (just listing it as an FYI).
Is there something I am doing wrong, or a setting I may have missed to make this happen?
Same issue, audio just flickers between pause and play on the first second, no sound. I have three Chromecast Audio pucks, none of them work with Plex on Android. Playing music through a browser instance on Chromecast Audio works just fine though.

Mad problems for over 6 months now trying to Chromecast to Google speaker groups. One with a Chromecast added that’s plugged into the home theater.
Was super excited to try Chromecast from Plexamp today only to be gravely disappointed.
But these issues have long existed in Plex for Android…
Hey Plex! When are you going to fix Chromecasting audio especially FLAC? Mad stuttering with FLAC too. I’m okay with on-the-fly transcoding to Opus at 320+ kbps!
Just realized that when I use the cast button I have the issue where it will not cast and just jump from 0 to 1 second back and forth.
But when I open Google Home app select the mini devise there is a cast audio button. When I click this cast button my music cast fine. Would be nice if the cast button the Plex app worked.
So, I was hoping that Plex would add the ability to send playlists to DLNA, but sadly it appears that is never going to happen. So chromecast audio is the only solution. Now I’m reading this and seeing that chromecast audio doesn’t even work. Is there any workaround for these issues? I’m not even sure its worth it though…can I even buy a chromecast audio device now? I don’t see them on Google’s site anymore and I need an audio only device to plug into Zone 2 & 3 on my receiver. What device are others using for audio only casting?
My solution to this was to start using Plex Amp on Android (it’s also on iOS, Mac, and Windows I believe.) It’s not a perfect workaround, but it definitely gets the job done with regards to music.
Plex really needs to fix this problem still, but at least this offers a solution to listen to music from our devices for the moment.
Edit: To answer mbarylski’s question, no you can’t buy new Chromecast Audio devices from Google any longer. Some new products (such as the one I mentioned in my original post) are available, but nothing from Google.
Edit 2: Here’s a possible cheap solution for Google no longer selling Chromecast Audio’s: A standard Chromecast (any model will do), plus a splitter like this that is HDMI in, and AUX/SPDIF (if you even need or want SPDIF optical) out. This solution is currently around $45 total, give or take $5 if you buy everything brand new.
Edit 3: Sorry, I’m finding better solutions now… Here’s the most elegant “new” solution: The Audiocast (basically a non-Google, generic alternative!) Be weary that reviews say this unit may be complicated to set up… so perhaps a Chromecast with an adapter (above) is the best method after all.
Plex Amp seems to be the answer for all the music related app problems. I got the same answer when asking why we can’t access downloaded playlists in the main Plex app anymore. I don’t know why they had to go and create a whole new app for music, but it looks like it’s completely taken their attention away from the built in music functionality.
I can understand your sentiment. Plexamp was a side project at the time of conception — a throwback to the 90’s and 00’s when Winamp could be found in practically every dorm room in college.
(Ah, the good ‘ol days when we could roam around mask free and not worry about crazies storming our Republic’s capital.)
Is this a Plex issue or has Google in it’s infinite wisdom relented on being an openish platform to further monetize their product line? I’ve looked for other solutions e.g. BubleUPNP and they don’t work either.
Not a problem. I think the problem is at Google and not Plex. I could be wrong but if you search on line for a solution other than plex they don’t work either. I’m not a Plex representative this is just one man’s opinion.
Trying to figure out the bottom line here. Does PlexAmp work with the Chromecast Audio? I just started looking into this, because I want to cast MP3 music to my dumb stereo receiver.
I only just learned of the Chromecast Audio, and then of its demise. But they are still available on ebay. Wondering if I should spring for one.
It does work, I’m listening to a Chromecast audio that’s hooked up to a yamaha receiver via optical cable as we speak. My prior issue not being able to cast turned out to be a firewall rule.
This is a great question. I have the same issue on macOS + Plexamp. I see the Chromecast icon, but when I click on it, none of my Home or Nest Mini speakers show up. But, I can cast from iOS devices to my speakers & speaker group.
If you are talking about Google Home & Nest Mini speakers — yes, you can cast to multiple speakers at once. If you want them all in sync you have to create groups of speakers AKA speaker groups using your Google Home app first. Here’s a guide on how to do it.
I’m having the exact same issue to a Cambridge Audio YoYo along with individual chromecast audio devices. Casting can work fine sometimes but often gets stuck between 1-3 seconds on a loop.
Tested via Plexamp and normal Plex app.
Its definitely a Plex issue as I can cast via Tidal and Spotify without issue.
@atechnical - you mentioned you had a firewall issue. Do you remember what port you had to open?
