Plex will not download meta data for some movies

Thats what I’m trying to tell you it already is the owner is the user that plex runs under as there is only you. I’d share a screen shot but as its 10 it shows my personal email address

I am not talking of the 1st or 2nd folder level in there but maybe just one or a few affected folders and files, hidden deep within this folder structure. It is impossible that you checked them all.
Hence my recommendation that you overwrite both the owner and the access permissions recursively (so the are inherited by each and every item within).

Could the original problem be with local media assets and embedded metadata stored in the files?

Do AVI/MKV files have metadata that plex can read?

They absolutely do.

They absolutely do.

While they have metadata which Plex can read (technical aspects of the file as well as informations about the language of the audio track[s]), they have none which Plex uses for its ‘matching’ process. That is currently only the case with mp4 / m4v files.

That has not been the case for me. I’ve have MANY cases where the metadata from AVI/MKV caused an incorrect match.

What ever the cause may have been, I’m pretty certain, that it was not embedded metadata in AVI and/or MKV files.

I don’t know. All I can say is once the metadata was removed, the files stated to match correctly. I don’t even bother anymore as all metadata is remove from every file before I add to plex. Maybe it’s a server version difference, who knows… I’ve seen many posts here having matching issues and it turned out to be metadata related and they weren’t all mp4/m4v. I blame it on solar flares. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Hi, I’ve followed the steps, left it for a while to see if it fixed and no same issue

Hi,

I’ve noticed another symptom. Some of the actors images are not getting downloaded, even if the metadata for the movie is. Here is an example:

I’ve seen this on day 1 of using Plex. Some load and some don’t. I’ve also notice that where one movie won’t show a particular actor, another movie will. Go figure…

These movies have been in plex for several days

@OttoKerner is there an update? I don’t want to be pushy but maintaining my Plex server is becoming more hassle than its worth. I’ve noticed that TV shows are not being removed from the library too, in some cases after about a month.

I’m thinking just hose plex and reinstall as I just want it to go back to working

Still nothing?

I don’t think Plex will actually remove any content(it should flag it with a trash can icon). There is a setting that can change this.
SERVER-> LIBRARY-> Empty trash automatically after every scan

@NewPlaza if you still haven’t gotten this working yet and you can install TeamViewer on your server I’d be happy to help you out remotely when you can be available at the server and talk to me on the phone.

I can help you run through everything talked about in this thread and more to diagnose your problem and hopefully get you back up and running properly.

Just PM me with your phone and roughly what time you would want to try this. Also state your timezone. I’m east coast USA (EST).

Carlo

@cayars Thank you for your offer but I’m not having issues. My server is up and running with no problems described in this thread(aside from an actor face not showing up from time to time).

OK great to hear!

@BigHowski was the guy with the issue - still unresolved as far as I can tell.
I too am thrilled @NewPlaza 's junk is working great, however.
