Under plex movie I have plex movie at the top of the “plex movie” tab and the movie database at the top of its tab.
I’m not sure how many movies I have, probably over 100…
I was actually thinking if I cleared everything out it might reset everything. It will be a pain as I’ll lose all my watched data and settings but if it fixes the problem it’d be worth it.
You want the logs again?

No, that is not what I meant.
In the properties on your movie library, what is set as ‘Agent’? (‘Advanced’ tab)

Since that is not guaranteed, I’d wait.
Before you throw everything out, try resetting your agent preferences using this procedure:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1197259/#Comment_1197259
This will only force the agent order and the preferences of every agent to reset to defaults.
Afterwards, Plex Dance 1 - 3 movies (not more, please!)
Then gather logs again.
Sure I’m away at the moment so I’ll do it Sunday.
Not sure if this helps but I’ve noticed that its not removing TV shows. For example I deleted a few seasons of a show about a week ago and there are still there as “unavailable”
Thinking that you might be right about flooding plex with requests I’ve done the following:
I’ve just moved all the files from my movie directory
Performed the plex dance
Put a small amount of movies back
left for over an hour
The movies are matched but there has been no download of metadata.
Logs attached
Sorry, I don’t see any logs.
Logs now attached - sorry
Sorry the logs are above.
Out of the 10 movies none have downloaded any metadata, all are showing as matched. I believe they fit the naming convention, here is an example:
F:\Movies\War\633 Squadron (1964)\633 Squadron (1964).mkv
I’ll try that security thing. Anything else you can think of?
Did the steps and 7 out of the 10 now have metadata but we still have missing ones and nothing has happened in 40 mins so its finished whatever it did. An example would be:
F:\Movies\War\Battle Of Britain (1969)\Battle Of Britain (1969).avi
Log are attached

I call that progress!
F:\Movies\War\Battle Of Britain (1969)\Battle Of Britain (1969).avi
Clear the http caches again and Plex Dance those movies which still don’t have any metadata.
I can see in the logs that Battle of Britain is recognized as an existing movie and Plex doesn’t bother to fetch new metadata.
What kind of a drive is E: ?

Well I think we are back to the original problem, which is some movies will not download metadata, even though they are matched as I still get no metadata after doing the plex dance.
What kind of a drive is E: ?
Just a normal spin drive attached, the machine is an old gaming rig with a small SSD as its main hard drive, it started running out of space due to plex so I moved the app data folder
@OttoKerner any more ideas?
I was waiting for help with analysing your logs.
Something points to your drive E:
PMS appears to have trouble either reading from or writing to it.
2017-03-12 16:44:49,608 (2d50) : ERROR (model:205) - Cannot read model from E:\PlexAppData\Plex Media Server\Metadata\Movies\d\03816a25d02707ed7de3eb8e2b882bbbe2540ab.bundle\Contents\com.plexapp.agents.imdb
I’d check access permissions on that drive. The Windows user account under which Plex runs, needs full access to eache folder and each file within E:\PlexAppData\Plex Media Server\
Sometimes antivrus software can prevent (or slow down too much) access. (forbid your AntiVirus to interfere in there.)
Sometimes an error in the file structure can mess up access permissions (perform CHKDSK and re-inherit permissions and file ownership. This can also be caused by running Plex ‘As Administrator’ - even if only once. Never run it as admin!)
Sometimes such an error can be traced to physical errors on the device (perform CHKDSK with surface scan).
Be absolutely sure, your drive E: is not spun down too aggressively (or it takes excessively long to spin back up. Power saving options in Windows).
Hi,
Thanks again for your continued help.
There is only one user account on the PC, so it can’t be that
I’ve now excluded that folder from the AV.
I’ve run a CHKDSK - there were a few files moved but no serious errors.
I’ve also installed a new update from Plex and
I’ll kick off a “refresh all now” and see what happens
Could the original problem be with local media assets and embedded metadata stored in the files?

I’m afraid this won’t be enough to avoid the ‘inaccessible’ errors in your logs. I assume there are still files and folders in your Plex data folder which are inaccessible (to a normal user) .
This needs to be rectified.
Disable/stop/quit Plex server
set the ‘owner’ of the Plex data folder (and all its subfolders and files within) to the Windows user account under which Plex Server is running
do the same for the access permissions
This little utility will help you with both tasks

It has, what I ment by “serious” errors is a failing hard drive. CHKDSK finished with no bad sectors or anything

Do AVI/MKV files have metadata that plex can read?

A CHKDSK will not fix all errors of this type.
There is only one user on the PC
Then you use this user name.
Then you use this user name.
Thats what I’m trying to tell you it already is the owner is the user that plex runs under as there is only you. I’d share a screen shot but as its 10 it shows my personal email address
